A new Linux App is available from our Beta Test page.
This App fixes the problem that actually was in the command-line parsing of the 4.12 Beta App (exit status 99, "Ending frequency not contained in SFT (sequence)").
In addition it forces immediate syncing of the checkpoint file (thanks Bikeman!), which should make the checkpointing even more reliable.

Please wait a bit before testing this one, it might have the same problem with checkpointing that the Windows beta had.

Yes, looks like it had checkpointing problems, i installed it at once and then when i now changed to the new 4.14 the WUs in progress with the old 4.14 started from zero again. I can quote Bernd on that one, "(thanks Bikeman!)" =)
Edit, forgot to mention that WUs in progress with 4.12 finished just fine with the first 4.14, one of them is already granted credit and the other is pending.

Have just updated (that was quick, only had 4.12 for 2 1/2 days) to 4.14.
I have not noticed any speed improvement with 4.12 on my Opterons, so hoping that 4.14 will be better.
Also no problem changing applications, Work Units kept going.

From Bernds post i take it that the code thats important for speed is the same in 4.14 as in 4.12, just a bug correction and then this new checkpointing that didnt work and was removed in 4.14 v2? So 4.14 and 4.12 performance should be the same, and since 4.12 had so short run we can continue the performance analysis for 4.12 here using 4.14.
Conan, you have some interesting results on [url=http://einsteinathome.org/host/579944/tasks]this host (Opteron 285 Fedora3), the 2 results you started with 4.09 and finished with 4.12 are quite fast. Your results arent very "lined up" because of small work cache so it will be hard to find a trend from your computers, and in addition you have too many other projecs running to get a good performance baseline for Einstein. Still, i think you had a speedup.

Just got the new app and a nice WU for my Core Duo to play with. Let's see what it does. 4.12 didn't quite seem to agree with this box since both WUs errored out with "Signal 11" errors. Okay, I had the laptop with me at the Ubuntu Conference the last days, using it with and without external power, with multiple reboots and and not under really controlled circumstances (I don't think it got too hot, it was not hot in the building and enough space for the laptop to run cool), but that shouldn't really have hurt anything since it's not much harder than what it normally has to go through at Uni and I've hardly ever had a client error on this box. SHA-1 Collision Search, the other project this box is running atm, returned valid results today, no hint at problems. But since the two WUs crashed at exactly the same moment, it still MIGHT have external reasons. Maybe it was because the two were running when sth went wrong. Electricity was a bit strange at the con, meters and meters of cable in strange setup, but I'm not sure if you could get too much voltags trough the external power supply? Apparently without doing any permanent damage to your hardware? I admit I'm at a loss?
If someone from the project staff could perhaps look into the two WUs? I have no idea where the problem is, so I can't say if it possibly affects the new app, too. As I said, it might be entirely my fault for taking my laptop with the beta app into such a difficult environment, but I simply don't know.
App 4.14 works well for me.

App 4.14 works well for me. Switch from 4.12 has been smooth, results are being validated, crunching times are faster by cca 2 hours (Athlon X2 3800+, 2GB RAM).
Thanks for a good job!

Sorry, can't say anything about this. The Core Client version that you are using cuts off the diagnostic messages that would help to find out what's wrong.
Core Client version 5.10.25 is said to have this fixed, but I don't know when it will be released to the public.

Okay, bad luck then. I hope I won't run into further problems. Thanks for the quick reply, Bernd.

I've installed this on several of my Linux machines over the past few days. So far, only two machines have had time to complete pure 4.14 workunits.
As you can see on my computer list, the "centos5" and the "donnie-kubuntu" machines now require significantly less time to process an S5R3 workunit. I'm glad, because that once again makes my AMD 6000+ machine (donnie-kubuntu) competitive against the Core 2's.
