Even after many resets, I keep getting "exited with zero status but no 'finished' file" messages. Today's messages follow.

Frequent "exited with zero status but no 'finished' file"

Ajit,

You can safely ignore those messages. The modules of Boinc like to "talk" to each other at 30-second intervals, and if one doesn't answer within a second, that error message is generated, but as you can see, processing is resumed, with no loss.
