Hello,
One of our users, George, over at the BABB team is stuggling to get his first WU done, and has thrown a couple of "Error -164"s. His message is:
----------------------
[core_client_version]4.24[/core_client_version]
[message] - exit code -164 (0xffffff5c)
[/message]
[stderr_txt]
***UNHANDLED EXCEPTION****
Reason: Access Violation (0xc0000005) at address 0x09823000 read attempt to address 0x09823000
This was located under my account. I viewed the "results" located under "Account statistics".
I had set STOPzilla to sleep mode and I am running Norton anit-virus. Could either of these trip the comm.?
----------------
Although this was with 4.24 beta, his earlier -164 error was with 2.19. He did a clean uninstall/reinstall to 4.24 hoping to solve the problem.
Since he has no credit yet, I can't, AFAIK, view his machine details, will get back to you with that; have to log off for a bit now.
I did do a search for "164" here without result.
Thanks for your trouble.
Ken

Error -164
)
According to the BOINC error number list, a -164 is exactly what Windows also showed.
Paul's FAQ has a more definitive answer. Although it's Thursday. ;)

Ageless,
So the fault is in: The OS, the client, the project, or the day of the week. Pretty much covers the ground, doesn't it? :)
Since this has happened with two different BOINC versions, I'll suggest to him that there is some incompatibility somewhere on his box that he can try to track down, or else find a DC project more friendly to his setup.
Does this seem fair?
Thanks again and I'll try to remember Paul's FAQ in future before I come here. He's the best.

Ken, if he's had this problem
)
Ken, if he's had this problem before, please let him check Event Viewer before anything else. Control Panel->Administrative Tools, Event Viewer should say where the unhandled exception took place. That way he can track it down a bit easier.
Well, with the help of the MSKB or Technet maybe.
Have you ever tried to fill in just 0xc0000005 in Google? It's a bitch of a thing to track down. ;)
Ageless, Excellent advice,

Ageless,
Excellent advice, it's been passed on.
I did google the error; was impressed, and what-do-you-know, there was a link to "Create a G-mail account" at the bottom. Apparently a random thing; further searches didn't show it.
Now I know most anybody-who-is-anybody has probably got one by now, but for a nobody, this is a big deal -- Many Thanks on all counts! :) :) :)

He, had I but known. I still got a load of invites sitting in there going nowhere. ;)
If he needs help on translating the errors in Event Viewer, let me know through here or email me on (so it's of good use ;)).
