According to the server status, the S5R3 run is scheduled to be completed early next year at the current crunching rate. Someone mentioned recently that there is a possibility of this run can be completed by the end of this year ahead of schedule.

Will this have any impact on the upcoming S6 run?

Since the Server status page currently shows about 5 days work remaining, the casual observer would be forgiven for thinking the run will finish early this year rather than next year :).

When things return to normal, the page will probably show a finish time for S5R3 of somewhere +/- the end of 2008 but that is of no real consequence since S5R3 will give way to S5R4 in all probability.

No. S6 data doesn't exist yet and will only be recorded (in a few year's time) after a lengthy upgrade to the LIGOs. There's plenty of good S5 data so expect to see more S5Rx runs for a few years yet.

Cheers,
Gary.

Why? Is the S5R4 data likely to be superior?

It's exactly the same overall data set (S5) but just a new analysis run (R4).

Cheers,
Gary.

The S5 data we are now

The S5 data we are now crunching on is the same as that for S5R2, so it's only a fraction of the total data acquired during S5 (which ended only a few month ago). A S5R4 run could look at more data .

I have read the article and it is excellent! In particular, I am especially interested in knowing more about the upcoming S6 plans.

By the way, I suggest that this info be posted on the project's main page. Many people here may not be aware of it.
