For all who grieve and mourn, especailly right now, the family, friends, students, staff, faculty, and administrators of Virginia Tech . . . our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with them. "We are all Hokies."
John Donne, in 1624 knew, and we should be reminded again today, not just for Virginia Tech, but the grieving and mourning in Iraq, Sudan, and throughout the world, where violence visits every day:
"No man is an island, entire of itself;
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less,
As well as if a promontory were,
As well as if a manor of thy friends, or
of thine own were:
ANY MAN'S DEATH DIMINSHES ME,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And, therefore never send to know for
Whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee."

your world is falling all apart
crashing down upon you heart
you will be free
you will be free
nothing left of what once held you
fades away as if to tell you
you will be free
you will be free
(bridge)
freedom's early days can burn
the sting of what you left behind
a passage back to where you yearn
only in memory can you turn
and you're facing the future blind
silent floors where no ones walking
empty rooms where no ones talking
you will be free
you will be free
life goes on in other places
someday you will see their faces
you will be free
you will be free
(bridge)
freedom's early days can burn
the sting of what you left behind
a passage back to where you yearn
only in memory can you turn

Long ago I wished to leave
"The house where I was born;"
Long ago I used to grieve,
My home seemed so forlorn.
In other years, its silent rooms
Were filled with haunting fears;
Now, their very memory comes
O'ercharged with tender tears.
Life and marriage I have known.
Things once deemed so bright;
Now, how utterly is flown
Every ray of light!
'Mid the unknown sea, of life
I no blest isle have found;
At last, through all its wild wave's strife,
My bark is homeward bound.
Farewell, dark and rolling deep!
Farewell, foreign shore!
Open, in unclouded sweep,
Thou glorious realm before!
Yet, though I had safely pass'd
That weary, vexed main,
One loved voice, through surge and blast
Could call me back again.
Though the soul's bright morning rose
O'er Paradise for me,
William! even from Heaven's repose
I'd turn, invoked by thee!
Storm nor surge should e'er arrest
My soul, exalting then:
All my heaven was once thy breast,
Would it were mine again!
i'm a man without a country
in a house that's not a home
living in a world that's broken
cannot find the life i've known
the pieces used to fit so well
when i was self-decieved
in memories i can see it now
and i don't like what a see
i feel like an ocean
been abandoned by the tide
all the winds have gone away
and there is no place to hide
i'm drifting away
on the lonely sea of nothing
i just can't find my way
but then i have nowhere to go
i'm lost in the middle
of the lonely sea of nothing
nothings gonna come my way
except the memories of yesterday
i once was a dreamer
but i've forsaken all my dreams
all the magic fades away
'till there's nothing left to feel
i'm drifting away
on the lonely sea of nothing
i just can't find my way
but then i have nowhere to go
i'm lost in the middle
of the lonely sea of nothing
nothings gonna come my way
except the memories of yesterday
used to be something
now i don't know
all that i cared about
has gone away
where good things go
i'm drifting away
on the lonely sea of nothing
i just can't find my way
but then i have nowhere to go
i'm lost in the middle
of the lonely sea of nothing
nothings gonna come my way
except the memories of yesterday
truth may be suppressed
but it still exists
hiding in the darkness
waiting to reveal the corruption
that stifled it's light
although we may be hindered
although we may be discouraged
the light of truth will emerge again
as a scourge
to those who thought it could be killed

Maybe Tennysons words will help.
[pre]Break, Break, Break
by Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Break, break, break,
On thy cold gray stones, O Sea!
And I would that my tongue could utter
The thoughts that arise in me.
O, well for the fisherman's boy,
That he shouts with his sister at play!
O, well for the sailor lad,
That he sings in his boat on the bay!
And the stately ships go on
To their haven under the hill;
But O for the touch of a vanish'd hand,
And the sound of a voice that is still!
Break, break, break
At the foot of thy crags, O Sea!
But the tender grace of a day that is dead
Will never come back to me. [/pre]

disillusion
the seeds have long been sown
and now the fields are overgrown
filled up to overflown
with disillusion
the world just holds it's course
like a rider rides his horse
still riding to the source

why, can't we see
what we've already done
it's not too late to change
who's gonna be the one
the hungry want to eat
you can hear their marching feet
marching to the beat
of disillusion
people hiding in plain sight
trying to make a wrong a right
they will never dim the light
of disillusion

of a rose
The sight of a rose
reminds me of you,
elegant and lovely
though never true blue.
The smell of a rose
heavenly frangrant,
passing light on the breeze
wantingly sacrosanct.
The sound of a rose
kind of like whispering sighs,
breathing veracious diatribes
which proved to be lies.
The taste of a rose
could only be like you,
leaving bittersweet memories
salty tears to reserve in lieu.
The touch of a rose
your soft embrace I would fain
but I'm given only biting thorns
to remind me of the pain.
