Hi,
I joined Einstein at home today and found that Einstein@Home runs very slow on my computer. It takes about 10 hrs to complete a "work" (CPU Time + To Completion Time = 10hrs), while it takes only 15 minutes to complete a SETI@Home "work". I asked my friend and he said SETI@Home and Einstein@Home take about the same amount of time on his PC (about 8 hrs). Is there anything wrong?
p.s. I'm running BOINC on a Xeon workstation.

Einstein@Home running much slower than SETI@Home?
)
E@H is floating points operations intensive where as S@H is more integer point operations intensive. However this cannot account for very big differences in performance. One of the possible reasons can be your old video-card (not supporting OpenGL) causing E@H screen saver to run in software mode (relying on CPU instead of video-card), try disableing E@H screen saver

Your S@H WU was very probably crunching a WU with special signals resulting in a "Informational Message -9 result overflow". When this happens, the crunching of that WU is stopped prematurely.
I'm running a P4 HT . S@H CPU time is in the range of 4h.15min to 4h.30min. and E@H in the range of 11h.15min. to 11h.45min.

I didn't enable E@H's
)
I didn't enable E@H's screensaver and my graphic card is FX5600 (I'm pretty sure it supports OpenGL)
I think there's a problem with the SETI@Home app which results the unreasonable fast speed of S@H.

I agree that the execution time of E@H sounds about right. The execution time of S@H sounds too fast.

Hi Jim,
You are Running the Alpha 4.24 and E@H is doing ok.
The SETI WU had errors and dumped after 60 seconds
here is the report:
4.24
SETI@Home Informational message -9 result_overflow
NOTE: The number of results detected exceeds the storage space allocated.
The WU had a problem. The credit claimed is 0.07 keep an eye on the other
Crunchers and see if they have the same problem.

This can not be considered as a problem: it is a WU that maybe contains signals from earth source or other sources surrounding us.
If a WU with this kind of signals is crunched, that WU will generate a hughe number of signals that are detected.
Once the volume of the file that contains the found signals goes over a certain limit, the application will automatically stop crunching that WU and will generate the "Informational message -9 result_overflow" message.
I crunched some 1500 WU for S@H with Boinc and had some 70 WU's with this message.

Sorry I'm kinda new

Sorry I'm kinda new here.
What is WU...??
And to Captain Avatar:
How could you know the version of BOINC I'm running...? Amazing...:p

WU stands for work unit
if you look at your uploaded WU you will see that several other people are working on it, however only you have reported the Result that's why your credit for it is still pending.
if you click on your result ID you will find more detailed information among other things the version of BOINC client that was working to produce that result
dont confuse WU and Result.
WU is what has to be worked on.
its result is what you report about your WU as a result of your work.
hence WU and its result have different IDs

A WU is the short term for work unit, it is what the application is crunching. It is also what you can see under the tab "Work" referenced as "name".
I let Captain Avatar respond to the other question, just give you a tip:
the answer to your question can be found here.
Up to Cpt.Avatar to do the explanation ;)
