The estimated time to finish the S5 run (1206 days - almost 4 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) was removed today!

Why?

Just being curious

Gravity increases significantly in Autumn, because apples fall in large numbers during that time!

Einstein status page - s5 data

Obviously because something went wrong calculating the time, probably because some factor from the S4 run was hardcoded into it. Or because it doesn't take the large number of S4 work in the database into account.

The run is designed to last for something between 6 and 12 months.

I think it has more to do

I think it has more to do with the fact that by far not all the einstein users are running the S5 data.
so the time till completion is high becuase of the slow progress at this moment.
As soon as everyone is doen with S4 the time to completion will drop significantly, and then that time will be put back

Just my idea

It was completely misleading, because only about 10% of einstein@home users are crunching the S5 workunits. The estimate of finish time will only be accurate when most einstein@home users are crunching S5 workunits. I'll turn the estimation back on in a few days when it's giving sensible predictions. But I thought it was better to give NO prediction than a nonsense prediction.

Sounds perfectly logical to me. It's nice to know that the "poor" crunchers thoughts and questions are taken into consideration from the Einstein team!

But it was't nonsense, it was right given the current workrate. That it looked a bit strange doesn't mean its not true.
Not quite unusual in science, I think.

It would be nice to see how many S4 are left. About half my machines are now on S5 (my P4 1.5 Xeon is taking almost 24 hours on a long S5). It is just curiousity on what's left. I guess I am a numbers junkie.

Think, right place to set my question. What means "with canonical result" and "no canonical result" on the status page?

Other than the Box labled S5, most of the stats in the boxs on the right still refer to S4s.

In particular Bruce has mentioned the stat to watch for S4 is:

S4 WU (no canonical result) 254,138

which is the total S4s work units that are not finished. (i.e. pending and unsent?)

Also the unsent work number in the bottom right box seems to still only refer to S4s, but I'm just guessing on that one.

Hi Svenie25 The top line

Message 38081 in response to message 38079

Hi Svenie25

The top line in that box is the total number of work units in the database and should add up to the three lines below it.

The second line is the work units that are fully completed and show up on your results page with granted credit.

The third and forth line refer to work units (S4 and S5) that are incomplete. They include work units that have a result that is on someone's computer somewhere that is not yet crunched and reported. If your part(result) of such a work unit is done, but someone elses part (result) is not, then it is part of your pending list.

Hope this answers you question.
