Use ATI GPU
Enforced by version 6.10+ no
Use NVIDIA GPU
Enforced by version 6.10+ no
Use INTEL GPU
Enforced by version 7.0.27+ no
and:

I keep getting:
Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Perseus Arm Survey) 1.34 (opend-ati) tasks which I must abort. Why is this? Note that I am currently running BOINC Manager 7.0.64 (x64).

Did you set your preferneces in the correct venue (default, home, school, work)?

Thanks for the hint Gundolf. I had my location set to the dashes and no locations defined so thought it would use the main page preferences, silly me! I changed the location to home and set up home preferences as desired and now all is working as planned.
