We actually have a lot of GPU data to process.

Can someone from a big team organize a challenge?

So we can put these BRP6 search under the 365 days mark...

Einstein GPU Challenge

I can only speak for myself but my problem is heat. It is in the range of90-100f daily here and will be for another 2 months. I can hit 500k a day on GPUs alone during the winter but summer I do well to do 65k. :-(

@Filipe: I never understood

@Filipe: I never understood this "challenge" craze. There's enough work for ages, so why bother running faster for a short time? And that computing power has to come from somewhere, i.e. other projects. Which might have run its own challenge shortly before. Well, I'm more interested in setting up sustainable configurations. But I admit that publicity and the competition character of a race can motivate some.

@Poppageek: you're dropping from 500k to 65k RAC? that means you're removing several GPUs from crunching completely, right? On any nVidia starting from the 600 series you can easily adjust to summer conditions by lowering the power and/or temperature target. The card will dial down clock speed & voltages and run more energy-efficiently. There's a performance loss, obviously, but due to the voltage scaling that's far lower than the power / heat saved.

Thanks ETA. Not sure how to

Thanks ETA. Not sure how to do that in Linux but will look into it. Most of what is idle is AMD GPUs. Only running one 660 TI right now.

I also do not really get the challenges but if it motivates people or makes things more interesting for them it is a good thing. I look at the long times in the server stats as job security. :D

Cheers!

The goals are more about

The goals are more about getting the results back to the scientists faster, than "job security"

So they can analyse them and eventually submit more work based on their findings.

Curious how you would do

Curious how you would do that. I have Nvidia Inspector to bump the memory clock back to where it should be in P2 state. When I access that screen, it does not have the power or temp targets that P0 state has. I currently just use SIV to set my target temp to 65 degrees C and it keeps both cards at that target by adjusting the fan speed. Normally that means the fans are running close to 100% and the power target somewhere around 70-75%. With my summertime temps, the A/C is still running all night to keep the house at 78 degrees C, even with the computer systems off. If they were on, the A/C would have to cycle on a lot more frequently. The A/C has to work fairly hard during the daytime with the computers running. The only saving grace is that at least during daytime, the PV array supplies enough power to offset the A/C and computers running as long as it is not cloudy.

Simply set power and

Simply set power and temperature targets in e.g. inspector for P0. They also apply to P2, just as the core OC.

I am also having that yearly

I am also having that yearly solar attack here and actually had to suspend a couple of my GPU's since the temp got up to 97 here this weekend.

The GeForce 650Ti OC cards are the only ones that stay at a low enough temp right now.

I can't wait for a cloudy and rainy day here

Only good part of the day was driving in the car with the AC on full blast.

Rain?? What's that?? At least this week it has been down below the century mark, though it is heading back up. Mid to upper 90's. Beats the 110+ we had for a few weeks previously.
