einstein going on and off
)
Hi,
What do you mean by "going on and off"? Can you perhaps tell us what messages you are seeing under the messages tab of BOINC Manager?
Your results list on the website shows successfully completed work but because your machine is quite slow (566mhz) it takes a long time for work to complete. Also you are running XP Professional with only 192MB of RAM so that will make your machine quite sluggish. You would see quite a performance improvement if you upgraded your RAM. I imagine you are using PC100 or PC133 SDRAM and you can pickup 256MB sticks of this type quite easily on eBay for example. If you were a bit more adventurous, you might even be able to upgrade your processor quite cheaply. I've upgraded a number of PIII 600 boxes to PIII 866 or PIII 933 or even PIII 1Gig and it gives them quite a performance boost.
If you are supporting multiple projects (ie both Seti & EAH) BOINC will switch between them, saving and restoring the state of each process as required. This would benefit by having more memory. I don't understand why you would have to stop BOINC in order to do anything else. BOINC is pretty good at releasing the CPU if other processes need to run. You also talk about resetting the project. Are you sure you have actually done this? Resetting involves throwing away all current work and the science applications and downloading everything again to get fresh work and programs. Resetting should be regarded as a last resort action because it is destructive of the work in progress. Your results on the website don't really show any evidence of this.
To be able to give proper advice, you really need to tell us in much more detail what the actual problem is. Give as much detail as possible, particularly with regard to message log entries that you would be seeing in BOINC Manager.
Cheers,

Gary.
I have a Dual core 3.4GHZ

I have a Dual core 3.4GHZ Pentium on 1 Gig of memory and I am having the same problem after a year of no problems. I can't think of any recent additions that would interrupt the BOINC but it just hangs when I run some other apps. Now it runs SETI OK but einstein reports running but nothing gets accomplished. I reset the project and upgraded BOINC which is when SETI started running again.
RE: I have a Dual core

I doubt it's the same problem as we don't really know what the OP's problem actually was :).
In your case, if you look at your computer list on the website, you will see you have two instances of a 3.4GHz machine. If you really only have one machine, you might consider using the merge function at the bottom of the host page to merge the two and get rid of the redundant ID.
On the results lists for both machines you have successful results and you have some client errors. If you click on the resultID for some results showing client errors, you will be able to see the error output produced by the program. Some of them report not being able to acquire a lockfile. I haven't seen this type of message before but I would guess it's related to some sort of filssystem error on your machine.
You really need to give us a much more detailed report about what you are doing and what responses you are getting back. A good thing to do (after you have merged your two virtual computers) is completely stop BOINC and then fire it back up and wait for messages to stop in the BOINC Manager messages tab. Then copy and paste all the startup messages into a new forum message here.
Cheers,
Gary.
