I´m using WinXPP SP3 with all newest updates and at now BOINC vers. 6.6.20 and want to update to the new version 6.6.36. The installation stops after about 90%. I get an error remark showing that it´s missing the boinc.msi-file, that´s awaited in E:\WINDOWS\Donwnloaded Installations\{ a long hex-coded figure }\boinc.msi. But the existing hex-coded figure is much diffrent from the awaited. The existing figure is obviosly generated from the boinc.file downloaded, during the installation procedure. I tried to download and install this 3 times with always the same different figures.
So, what can I do? Waiting for the next version? But it seems a more personel problem, as now other are reporting about this difficulty.
I would be pleased to get some useful hints.
Kind regards
Martin

Dificulties to install BOINC Vers. 6.6.36

It probably wants the .msi file for your old (6.6.20) version of BOINC, so that it can uninstall that version as part of the installation procedure for the new version.
Try re-running the installer for v6.6.20 in 'repair' mode, and then trying to upgrade.

If you are just upgrading to be upgrading to keep up with the latest version my advice would be DON'T! The 6.6.? versions of Boinc have some problems that has necessitated the programmers to be coming out with a new version as soon as they fix some of the latest bugs. Version 6.4.7 seems to be okay, one person even reported a cooler, faster running pc as a result of downgrading from 6.6.36 to 6.4.7!

Thanks Richard!
I had the old .msi in the directory, but after running the repair-mode, the installation of the new version ran without anny problems. The hex-figure became changed to the awaited one.
For Mikey !
Thanks for your hint, but I read yours after installation the new version. I checked the CPU benchmarks before and after installation. It reduced very little, within the statistical margins and atnow I can´t observe any increase in crunchingtime of the few files done since.
Many thanks and happy crunching !
