No work was sent for quite a while (in days), yet I keep getting this message when trying to get more WU's since Seti is still messing around.

Boinc is trying to honour your "connect" setting of 5.0 days by only connecting every 5.0 days. By this time you have a bunch of results to report and claim credit for. Boinc will then try to refill your cache but there is a daily limit of 8 and because you need much more than 8 to get the full five days worth, the server is refusing to send the extra.
The smartest thing for you to do is change your general prefs on the website to give a connect time of about 0.5 days and then go to the "Projects" tab of Boinc and right-click E@H and select "update". Then you will more regularly report your results to the server and more regularly download smaller amounts of work which wont exceed the daily limit. The limit is there to prevent a box which has gone beserk from trashing a whole bunch of work before someone notices. It can only trash 8 per day (even less now with more recent mods I believe).
Your fellow crunchers will love you if you reduce your connect time because more regular contact with the server clears out the "pendings" much faster and lets everyone get their credit. Please checkout the FAQ and also the link there to Paul D Buck's excellent Boinc documentation website.
Edit: One small point -- I've given "update" instructions for the 4.19 client and you've got 4.25 which I believe is a bit different (easier??) to update. I'm sure you'll work it out.
Cheers,
Gary.
I've updated mt preferences
)
I've updated mt preferences to .5 days of work.
I'm on a very slow dialup (max u/d speed 2kb/s) so I can't surf or anything when updating, so I try to do it every couple of days.
I can understand the limits but only 8 WU's a day seems kind of low.
With my average completion time of 5 hour 30 mins, that's only 44 hours of work (in reality, it's a bit longer cause I'm also a Seti cruncher.)
The limit seems kind of low, but I'll give it a shot. I have 9 units in queue and I'll wait and see what happens during the next work request.
The other reason I like to keep a few days worth is in case of a server issue. case in point, the latest Seti issues with the server being down for many many DAYS.
Since the testing is over, I think it would be a good time to really re-evaluate the WU limit of 8.
As to the credit granting, time will work that out. Hell, no one should be expecting instant gratification...lol
So a few days wait for WU validation is no biggie....lol
