I run CPDN, SETI, LHC & now Einstein@Home. I have two machines, an AMD 2.6GHz Athlon with 512Mb RAM running XPSP2 & a Dell M60 laptop with a 1.7GHz Centrino & 512Mb RAM.
In all of the projects up to now, the Centrino has been processing units much faster than my AMD, approx 30%. I joined the Einstein@Home project on Friday after my invite. In this project only, my AMD is much faster @ processing units, about 4-5hrs per unit, than my Centrino, looking at about 10hrs per unit. Does this make any sense to anyone? I am running Boinc 4.18 on both machines.
Thanks,
David

In the case of Einstein, simpler is better I guess. Fast Athlon XP's seem to be the sweet machine for this project. Do check out the threads that Bernd linked to.

A64 3200+ 512L2 cache - 1 E@H WU in 5:45
P4 2.6 with HT Northwood - 1 E@H WU in 13 hours but does 2 in the same time.
Processors are equivalent (comparing benchmarks) but A64 does more in E@H in 24 hours (4,17WU) then P4 (3,69WU).

Hi Slovko, I'm running 7 P4

Hi Slovko, I'm running 7 P4 HT Computers here at Einstein, the slowest one of them will run 2 WU's in 11 hr's & the fastest one will run 2 WU's in 9 Hr's which would equate to between 4.36 & 5.33 WU's per day ... :)

Probably you have faster P4. My one is already more then one year old, it is old Nortwood core and DDR400 CL3 memory which is quite a slow memory. On A64 I have DDR400 CL2,5 memory which probably makes that better times.
Which processors exactly do you have?

See, much more then mine 2.6GHz.
Then times are right. Makes sense.

Yes, I wasn't inferring anything about your CPU, I was just giving you some times for some of the faster P4's than yours ... :)

My XP 1600+ completes an Einstein WU in 8h50m cpu on average.

Something peculiar I have noticed with my Intel P4's is over at the Seti Site the 1 Prescott P4 3.4 I have will run the WU's 30-60 min's faster than the 3 Northwood P4 3.4's I have will. But here at the Einstein Site the Northwoods will out run the Prescott by 30-60 min's .... Weird to say the least ... :)
