Being a bit new to all of this - what are credits for, can they be used for something??
If you reply to this, thanks for finding the time
Not a lot actually, but it has various 'modes'. It has a rating or score function generally. You can't buy, sell or exchange for anything - a true virtual currency. Personally I use it for measuring progress or optimization, as do others. Some like to brag, perhaps compete. It can be used to rank effort or even kudos. You can do what you want with it really ... it's your joy! :-)
Cheers, Mike.
I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Thanx for the reply - that clears up why there is no mention of credits on the main hompage - thnx - also what is c40 etc that i amr reading about on other threads - maybe not the right place to put it.... but what the heck!!!

The Cxx, Sxx, D40 are optimized [windows] einstein apps designed to increase computer throughput. I think either the D40 or the S40 would suit your comp. Go to this link and follow Mike's instructions in the first thread. There is some discussion on which app is better (D or S). I don't know (I've pentium).
-edit- there have been a few errors reported on the S40, S39L is a safe bet. If your comp. uses CDNow! then consider this thread.
Credits do have their position. The developers can say that this much work is done in this amount of time, for grant purposals, etc. So for us it's just a measurement of stats or glory, for them it's good numbers for maybe getting a little more money out of a potential grantor.
I am happy I am helping the project, and would do so without the credit system. Since there is a credit system, I am also a slight bit competative and am happy that I can say I broke the top 1000 users list, etc.
If there were not credits, I am sure many would leave. I would not. I might be a little less active on the boards, but I would still help the science.
So, to everyone who crunches, salute. Have your favourite beverage, and watch the ticks go by.
If there were not credits(or some other way of ranking progress amoung the users), I would likely still be participating in the project just not nearly as enthusiastically.

Pooh Bear 27,
For your donations in computer time and electricity for the science, and contributing your knowledge toward assisting your fellows, on the helpboards, you are a valuable asset.

Michael,
I wish to thank you for the kind words. It does make me feel good that I am able to help others. I do not want to take the limelight, though. There are many people on these boards who help. Each of our experiences are help.
If you want to thank someone, I think that Dr. Bruce Allen and the other Einstein developers for creating such an awesome project, making it the most stable project out there, and being an active part of our community here. These people deserve applause from all of us. They are the reason we are here, and they have made us feel like a good part of their community.

Credits are the term for what you accumulate/earn for crunching a wu. The longer a wu takes, the more credit, and the other way around offcourse.

I transfered all mine to a small piece of plastic and then went shopping!
I was arrested ;-)
