Hullo, I installed BOINC and throttled the CPU usage on my machine back to 70% (mainly so I don't have the fan going crazy). I expected the CPU usage graph (in Task Manager) to simply smooth out... but instead it appears to spike continuously between 0 and 100% on a 1-2 sec cycle (with the average at 70% as required.)
Is this normal?
(BTW I'm running Win2k ~large groan from the crowd~)

Yep, that's how it's designed to work in BOINC.
The reason for that as I understood it, was it allowed them to implement the throttle functionality across the greatest number of platforms with the fewest complications.
