I was reading up on cpu and best ones to use.Since i am just running a laptop with

I have joined Einstein@home but am now wondering if my little unit is worth running to crunch the numbers or would it be better if i just stepped away and let someone with the big unit have a go

Your notebook is more than adequate to crunch for Einsein@Home, provided you allow it to run several hours a day (not necessarily EVERY day, but on average (say) 3 hours per day should be enough to meet the project's deadline for submitting results).
There are many people participating with far less powerful computers, even some Pentium II and Pentium IIIs.

Then you will have absolutely no problems, dealine-wise :-). Note that BOINC by default will stop crunching when it runs on batteries, which is probably what you want, so you don't have to worry about BOINC draining your batteries when you use the notebook for something else.
