If anybody is still awake; I'm just running a little ol AMD Sempron 2600+, I try to run Einstein as much as possiable(sp), my cpu temp has been going up to ~107 Degrees F, would it be okay to go to bed without worrying if my computer will catch on fire? Keith

my AMD sempron goes to 123 degrees f or 51 c°
Crunching for serveral years now without any problems.

107 is cool (literally) - I wouldn't worry about an AMD until it's well above 120, although if _mine_ (AMD64 3700+, normally 115 or so, overclocked) were above 120, I'd consider more cooling... but I'm paranoid. The real "danger zone" for most AMDs "frying" though is up around 140-150!
You might want to measure in degrees C instead of F, almost everyone is using C and you'll find it easier to compare notes.

My X2 3800+ runs at 45°C or 113°F. This is pretty cool for an dual core
processor with an el cheapo heatsink (was 9.90 €).
I concur. For all who don't know: T_F = T_C * 1,8 + 32.

How does one get the CPU temperature.
Just out of idle curiousity. I doubt my lappy is running hot b/c my lappys sitting on a cooling rack (thanks for that tip whoever posted it) and I leave the window open. Since it's hovering around the freezing point most of the time with a pretty good breeze, it's a cheep cooling system :)

(edit) It runs in your taskbar, but I think you'll just want to take a look, to comfort yourself that all is well, and then exit the program. Running it constantly is for those whose computers are semi-permanently on-the-brink, usually overclockers, like myself. My ASUS motherboard comes with it's own utility, ASUS Probe, that does the same thing, and I check it from time to time, to see if it's close to thermal shutdown, or it there's enough thermal headroom for me to crank the speed up another notch. :-)

Not so. AMDs can and DO run Hot! The thermal limit on most Athlon and XP cpus is around 85C (but I wouldn't let it get that hot if I were you...and I can't speak for Semprons and AMD64s, 'cause I don't have any and haven't looked it up).
I run MBProbe on all my systems (except the ASUS mb) and have it set to do an emergency shutdown at a critical temp of 70C (158F). My systems will typically run at 58C to 68C (136F-155F) when crunching Einstien (SETI runs lower), and have for years (actually, Einstein hasn't been up that long, but I've run SETI for years). I DO prefer to keep them below 65C (150F) whenever possible.
I came home yesterday pm and found my ASUS system running at 76C (169F) with the alarm beeping like crazy. Replaced the heatsink and its now running 63C (145F) crunching Einstein. It did NOT fry at that temp.

XP's run hotter than 64's - as do Intel's CPUs. The real answer is that the "danger point" varies from model to model, and what would make ME panic if my CPU got that hot, may just be the normal temp for a different one. Your alarm at 70C would be way too late for mine, that I have set to alarm at 55C... which is below your normal operating temp... not that it would be "destroyed", but that it _might_ be damaged in some way, and even if not, indicates that something is wrong with my cooling somewhere.
But even the "cooler" laptop CPUs aren't in any kind of trouble at 107F, much less a desktop CPU. My laptop is at 46C/115F as we speak, and it's sitting on a cooler. :-)
@Michael R., your box is overclocked enough that BOINC can't even identify the CPU any more, just says "unknown AMD", have you noticed that? :-P
