The cpu usage pegs at 100%, even when I'm using the computer. If I snooze or suspend the gridrepublic desktop, it drops down to zero. I thought the program only used my computer's resources when it was otherwise idle. Anyone?

If you only want BOINC to crunch while you are not using the computer you need to check two places.

First log into your account here at Einstein. Click on the general preferences link. Make sure that it says no next to "Do work while computer is in use". If it doesn't, click edit preferences and change it to no.

Then go to BOINC manager (you're using the grid republic version I guess) and click on the activity menu. Make sure it says "Run based on preferences". If it doesn't, change it to that. If it does and you had to change your setting on the web, go to the projects tab, highlight Einstein@Home and then click on update. This will force your computer to communicate with the E@H servers and get the updated general preferences. You only need to do this if you changed that field on the website.

The projects run at whatever

The projects run at whatever processor is left after whatever you are doing, at a low priority. I leave it run 24/7, I even author DVDs, video edit, etc., and do not have any issues. The software is smart enough to get out of the way. Of course, more memory helps.

The software is doing exactly what it is meant to do.
