Have only had one error on my Intel Quad core PC running BOINC 6.12.34 and it was BRPRcuda 32 Binary Radio Pulsar Search V1.22. I changed the hard drive to an SSD and re-installed same OS, all other hardware the same. When I re-installed BOINC it was version 7.0.25 and I have had 6 computation errors with this machine, they were all Gravitational Wave S6 Line Veto Searches. Is this a problem with my new SSD or the new BOINC?

Your errors are in the category of error -185 ERR_RESULT_START
with
couldn't start Input file l1_0152.60_S6GC1 missing or invalid: -119: -119
While both are BOINC error numbers, I don't think it's BOINC its fault. More like something didn't get across to your computer when you reattached to Einstein.
So, try a reset first and a reboot next.
If you still have problems after that, you may want to uninstall BOINC and reinstall it, but this time place your BOINC Data directory on a drive other than your SSD (just a normal HDD will do). You do that in the third screen in the installer, by clicking the Advanced button, then changing the path for the data directory (second path) to another drive letter than C: (do check that you don't have multiple partitions on the SSD!!), and afterwards continuing the installation of BOINC as normal.
That way the BOINC program files (once read, never written to) will run from the SSD and the data directory (much read from and written to) from an HDD.
BOINC 7.0 is just the new flavour. Do however keep in mind that this is an all new version and that there have been some changes, especially in how to get work. The old connect to and additional days of work are now a minimum work buffer and a maximum additional work buffer. BOINC 7.0 will not request work to top off the cache constantly as 6.xx did, but only when it goes under the minimum work buffer value.
Hi! There is something
)
Hi!
There is something strange about this error actually: In some of the error cases, the app has run for almost 20k seconds already. This happens to be the time that host needs to complete a WU, so it seems that
a) at one time, the PC HAD all required input files, otherwise it would not have started in the first place (!)
b) then (after hardware and/or software modification), the input files were gone and BOINC complained with the error.
So please let us know whether following Jord's advice helps because if workunits that were downloaded after the changes (SSD and new BOINC version) still keep failing, there's something wrong in BOINC itself (or the version migration) perhaps.

My check is whether it's the
)
My check is whether it's the SSD or BOINC.
If the trouble is over after moving the data directory to the HDD, then it may be SSD trouble, it's not firing on all cylinders --so to say-- and losing information.
If the trouble continues, it may be BOINC, or the HDD as well... but more probably BOINC. ;-)
By the way, I see I missed a bit in the advice above and that's the moving of the present data directory to the new place, before installing BOINC.
So here goes new advice:
- Uninstall BOINC
- Move you present data directory with everything in it, files and sub-directories, to a place on the hard disk drive (HDD).
- Install BOINC, pointing out where the new Data directory is. You do that in the third screen in the installer, by clicking the Advanced button, then changing the path for the data directory (second path), then afterwards continuing the installation of BOINC as normal.
The default directory where BOINC will install the data files to is:
Windows 98/SE/ME: C:\Windows\All Users\BOINC\ or C:\Windows\Profiles\All Users\BOINC\ (*)
Windows 2000/XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\ (*)
Windows Vista/Windows 7: C:\ProgramData\BOINC\ (*)
Linux: wherever you unpack it/BOINC/
Macintosh OS X: /Library/Applications Support/BOINC/
(*) This directory may well be hidden, so either put the path to it directly into Windows Explorer, or instruct Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders.
Thanks for the info. I've
)
Thanks for the info. I've "reset" the project and now I'll have to wait and see if there are any more errors. If so I'll move the data folder to the HDD and see what happens. I also noticed that on the previous BOINC I had a task that used .2CPU + GPU that used my video card. (I could tell it was running as my video card fan would speed up and I would consume an extra 30 watts of power). I don't have any of those tasks anymore. My video card didn't change.
Three Gravitational Wave
)
Three Gravitational Wave tasks completed, two went directly to my "valid" list and one went to the "Pending" list. The tasks were h1_0152.40_S6GCI_330_S6LV1B, and 344 and 345. 344 and 345 went to "valid" list and 330 went to "Pending". None went to the "error" list. Will wait another day and see if any others show errors. Maybe the reset worked.

Updated Nvidia driver to 301.24 beta and am now receiving GPU work units.

Several days out from problem, lots of work units uploaded and no more errors. Reseting project apparently worked. Thanks for the help.
I'm getting the same
)
I'm getting the same computation errors after installing BOINC 7.0.25, and only with Gravitational Wave S6 Line Veto searches. I have never seen these before since joining BOINC projects. It cannot be my new Intel core i7 3.4 gHz desktop. I use a normal hard disk drive, with over 1 TB of space. I used to use my nVidia GeForce GPU, but stopped when the thing was being maxed out.
If I try uninstalling BOINC and reinstalling, will that do anything, I mean mess up my projects' data, connections, or anything?
The same problem after
)
The same problem after upgrading to 7.0.25, but resetting project or clean installation hasn't helped.
I uninstalled BOINC
)
I uninstalled BOINC completely, using the Windows 7 uninstall in Control Panel. I rebooted the pc, then reinstalled BOINC from a fresh download, version 7.0.25 still. Voila; it appears to be processing Einstein@home, SETI@home etc with no more errors, except just one, again in the Gravitational Wave S6 Line Veto Searches. That was a day or so ago, since then, no errors at all. So, fingers crossed. See the Message Board: Technical News recent posting from 'Scotty' about the changes made to GW S6 LVS Work Units.
