Recent tasks completely saturated my RAM, almost made my computer crash, this never happened before. I have aborted those tasks on 2023-02-17
YES the O3 cpu tasks take about 2gb of ram per task, one of your pc's has 8gb of ram and 4 cpu cores while the other has 16gb of ram and 16 cpu cores, so YES it's very easy to overload your amount of ram with the current tasks especially if you are using the HyperThreaded cpu cores to run 32 cpu tasks on one pc and 8 tasks at a time on the other pc.
You can limit this thru the settings by limiting the number of cpu cores available to Boinc or thru an app_config.xml file to limit the number of tasks on a per Project or even per app basis.
No the tasks are doing ALOT of work and the way they were designed that takes alot of ram.
You can use an app_config.xml file to limit the number of tasks that run at one time but it would be easier to limit the amount of cpu cores your pc can use in the Boinc Manager under Option, Computer Preferences and then the top line is "use at most" then a place for a percentage of the cpu cores to use while crunching and getting new work as well. You could start out with 50 so half the cpu cores are asking for work and see if it works or even 25 so only 1/4 of the cpu cores are asking for work. Be sure to click Save at the bottom of the page
