Since installing E@H to run with SETI in boinc I have had display problems. My computer is a Toshiba 5105-S607, XP Home. As soon as I open Boinc my screen will go dark momentarily and return in 8 bit color. To change back to 32 bit requires a restart and it will start in 32 bit but changes to 8 bit before the restart is complete. To get 32 bit color for a short time I must run WinDVD and a DVD in the drive and this will shift the display back to 32 bit until E@H communicates with the server. Immediately there is a communication from E@H, back to 8 bit. Obviously I do not understand why this happens but I am sure I don't like it! I have run Seti and Boinc for some time now without problems. I like E@H and enjoy being part of something but don't need the hassles. THX, Bob

I un-installed E@H and the problem went away. I then went ahead and un-installed SETI and Boinc and re-downloaded them and the problem did not reappear. I am working up the nerve to reload E@H.

I have the same problem on my Fujitsu Siemens laptop. However mine waits about two hours until it crashes the video driver and everything goes big and 8-bit. I will try the above and see what happens. It does seems ashame if the two can't be run at the same time though.

Reply: I haven't yet re-installed E@H as I am enjoying smooth operation. When I re-downloaded Boinc and SETI I got new versions of both and that alone may be the key. I have learned not to "fix" something when it isn't broken therefore my
reluctance to re-install E@H. I am a big coward! Especially since my previous laptop was a Dell which ate 3 hard drives in a year, an experience which I could have done without! The most satisfying thing I did in 2004 was throw the Dell from the Dog River Bridge into Mobile Bay. It made a most satisfying splash! Good Luck!

I have now re-downloaded E@H after new Boinc and SETI downloads, both different from what I had. I now have a Boinc manager and the graphics are slightly different but it has been running E@H for several hours without a hitch. SETI is and has been down since Friday so E@H is getting all the play. I am keeping my fingers crossed!
