Considering the spelling in the title I'm wondering exactly what you're trying to do here to the patrons, CA.

Hey, Misfit. Es99's serving tea. Pull up a chair and tell us what else you know. I've noticed you have some skills... :)

Have a cup. It's fresh as it's around noon local time.

I'm going to pull last night's pizza and soda out of the ole fridge and have some lunch.

G'day Dan! Quoting Es99

G'day Dan!

Quoting Es99 from the now closed closed closed closed thread

I'm afraid I don't read the Scientific American, so I didn't see the article. I occasionally read the New Scientist, but I don't remember anything on that topic. If there was I probably missed it. Sounds interesting though.

If I understood the article correctly, it had to do with maths in 2 dimensions that was relatively simple, and when this math was projected onto the surface of a 3 dimensional sphere, it results in a different set of motions, more complex than the 2-d maths, and hence the proposition is that the gravitational force is possibly an illusory complexity of simpler actions/forces in 2 dimensions. Actually, here's a quote of the article's Overview/Equivalent Worlds box:

Quote:
>According to a remarkable theory, a universe that exists in two dimensions and is without gravity may be completely equivalent to a three-dimensional universe with gravity. The three-dimensional universe would emerge from the physics of the two-dimensional universe somewhat like a holographic image arising from a hologram.
>The two-dimensional universe exists on the boundary of the three-dimensional universe. The physics on the boundary looks like strongly interacting quarks and gluons. The physics on the interior includes a quantum theory of gravity – something that string theorists have been developing for decades.
>The equivalence provides a new way to understand properties of black holes, which require a suitable melding of quantum mechanics and gravity. The mathematics of the theory has not yet been rigorously proved, but it seems useful in analyzing a recent experimental high-energy physics result.

I'm not quite sure what category my blue blob falls into (brane theory?), and have lots more homework to do on it. My pre-post checklist (the part where I run a series of simulations using a template of the previous consensus) is preempting posts to the science board on the matter. I'm barely getting this one in, as I need to find out which particular branch of philosophy Ariane's Non-existence of time thread fits into. Possibly Anti-realism? Whoa, what happened to Ariane's thread?? I was going to link to it. Ariane?

And I'm not trying to suggest that 'math is the universe' either. It seems to me a kind of mold for things material, but I also think there are things that break the mold...

Kathryn, are you up and about? [edit: you're up! hi!] It was a rather profound realization for me when I answered your question about being related (in closed thread), insofar as the answer seems to be 'yes' for any philosophic doctrine. I was trying to cover all the bases when I remarked about Ariane's. I'm sorry if I offended you and/or her with my remark about sleeping in. Seemed like a good argument for existing. :)

Hello Chipper, nice to see

Hello Chipper, nice to see you and i'm still here .Thank you for your interesting scientific stuff, very instructive and each day i learn a lot about maths and physics.BTW, i liked so much your formula using all greek alphabet ,LOL.I wonder myself what happened to my thread, anyway it doesn't matter.

your friend

Dear Ariane,

Hello! and nice to see you again. :-)
Is The non-existance of Time! the thread to which you and Chipper have been referring?

As ever,

Michael

Michael, my very dear friend,

Michael, my very dear friend, hello and thank you for your reply, don't worry about that thread, for me it's over and has not any meaning to me anymore.Everything evolve and we too.BTW , last night i finished my EAH project crunching with success but my 150 new credits are pending , what does it mean ?

Faithfully yours

Ariane

Hmm, this is a new area for you, my dear, where two of you co-crunchers on that WU have not finished, so the quorum is not yet complete. You're just too fast for them!!! One of them is a newbie, who by some server quirk, managed to get 10 WUs without ever finishing even one. Newbies have a high dropout rate, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that one. The other one takes 4.11 days to finish (on average) and it's already been 7 days and counting, but probably does Seti also, so his Einstein WU is probably pre-empted while Seti catches up on near-deadline work. Don't worry, this one is shaping up to be high-credit, you should receive 101.36 credits for the pending work.

I am indeed up and about after a good long nap.

There was no offence taken. No matter how you cut it up, we are all related because we are all humans. Makes the arguement for playing nice all the more powerful... Alas, I guess our world leaders just can't see that.

On a happy note, my box of warm clothes arrived the other day, and in digging deeper into it (I stopped at the sweats I but on to sleep in) I found a box of "Little Debbie" Oatmeal Creme Pies. One of my favorite treats and definitly not to be found in Korea. It has taken all my will power to eat only one. But I want them to last... (Perhaps I should email and tell the powers that be at home "more little debbies, or the phone bill will go up!"

LOL
