Many of the projects I run are showing up as "Client Error" with no credit given. Is there a problem with my computer?

Thanks.

Client Error

I recently subscribed, and had good success until this week, when I started getting the "Client Error" message, just as you seem to be getting. Then I subscribed to be notified about e-mail to this thread, and was not "subscribed", probably because I asked not to be sent e-mail. However, I would like to know if you have any reasonable answers to you problem. If you would be kind enough to forward them to me at , I would appreciate it, and if it is too much trouble, no hard feelings. I wish you luck in getting to the bottom of this in any case.

From the Boinc Wiki Looks

From the Boinc Wiki

Looks a little like Unrecoverable error for result 2o4n_200145842_0 ( - exit code -1073741502 (0xc0000142)) so it could again be a Windows STOP message.

Searches for 0xc0000005 provides lots of hits. Other possible suggestions include updating graphics drivers particularly if it occured on viewing visualisation.

Dear Boinc Wiki Thanks

Message 12271 in response to message 12270

Dear Boinc Wiki
Thanks for the hint, but you over-estimate my computer competance by a lightyear. I assume Einstein had the unrecoverable error, since my system was not affected. I have no idea what the exit code means, but suspect it has little to do with the EXIT and RETURN(NNN) Fortran statements from ages ago. Is there some list of error codes that I need to search to find the problem? The only new thing since the "Client Error" business started was the replacement of McAffe by Norton Anti-Virus. The only affect on my machine is that I don't get the "globe" screen saver, but the "BOINC" screen saver, and all the messages kept by the BOINC Manager have disappeared from my machine. I thought it would be great to help out this project, but if it looks like a hassle for me and no benefit to the program, I can bail. I have an old machine with no great memory, so it may not be what the project needs. Any ideas you have will be gratefully considered, and if you haven't the time, well, thanks for your response to date in any case,

All the best,
Jerry

Dumping this project due to

Dumping this project due to "client errors" for no apparent reasons. Not going to waste 6+ hours of CPU time for this kind of BS. Bye! hAVE FUN.

I started this thread a few

I started this thread a few days ago, and have to read a direct response that would answer the question. In all, I'm batting 33.3% success. The failures are frustrating since I'm using CPU time to crunch the numbers. So, is there a problem with my computer, my Internet server, or with BOINC?

Thanks.

If you are having problems

If you are having problems all round, you could be having computer problems. I just replaced a RAM module becauces of client errors. To rule out RAM problems you can try MemTest86 (www.memtest86.com).

Tom, I'm not a computer guru but I can tell you that Einstein seems to be stable. I'm running 5 machines and have had no problems for a long time. You didn't say which BOINC version you are running on your machine(I run BOINC version 4.19 as it is simple and very stable). Have you changed anything on your system lately? The other critical factor may be warmer ambient temperatures which will make your system unstable. Based on your results that would be my first guess. Hope this helps. Cheers,Rog.

Hi again Tom this is from the

Hi again Tom this is from the wiki

Message Type: Error Message

Actually, we geeks call this a "Fatal Error", this means that the whole world comes to an end …

This error can be the result of a programming error in the code for:

The BOINC Client Software
The Science Applications
Any other program running on the computer
The Operating System
On the other hand, it could be because it is Tuesday.

This is your error message

4.25
- exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005)

Thank you, Paper Dragon,

Thank you, Paper Dragon, ARmassey and Fuzzy Logic. The 'puter is a new HP noebook and it seems to function well enough, with the usual PC problems that Mac lovers point at derisively. But it runs my astrophotography set up quite nicely. I don't think it's an internal problem, although the BOINC program (ver. 4.25) is often disabled when I go on internal battery power. Perhaps that's a problem. Don't know. Since I live outside Chicago and the computer functions in an ambient temperature of about 72-degrees F., I don't think it's the heat (or humidity!). So, I'll download the memory test and try that, and stick with it a bit longer to see if things imrove. Afer all, it IS Thursday.

My client error problems

My client error problems seems to have gone away. I did download a graphics software update, and downloaded and ran the memory test (no problems, none expected) but I also went to the site and signed in again with my URL and passcode. My thanks for your help.
