While I don't have a telescope yet, I thought it might be fun to start a thread for posting of pictures from home based telescopes.

No cheating! :-) Pictures must be taken with a home based or club telescope, or something similar. Persons posting commercial pictures will be flogged and placed in stocks in the town square! :-)

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

Uh, Houston ...

Both images taken from back porch but "photoshopped" together. This pic falls under the "something similar" category.

We just had a power outage that lasted longer then the UPSs' could provide power. it seems the storms and their accompanying lightning is more severe than usual. Last year I added "whole house surge protecion". Glad I did. I powered all the boxes off during the outage because its not always "pretty" when the power comes back on. Once the power is stable then I bring them up.

If you have a heat pump turn it off too, or make sure there is a built in timer delay, or it too could get expensive! I spent over 100 bucks on a capacitor to help mine turn on easier and it turns out it had a timer built into it, making the capacitor unnecessary!! It's the quick cycling on and off that's the problem, not the coming on and staying on, so the timer just forces it to wait 5 minutes after the power is back on to help ensure it is stable.

I can see the Wallop's Island launches from my front yard, we try to watch all of them! I am still a LONG ways away, but you can clearly see the rockets burning as it climbs above the trees. I will look for pictures.

Yeah - that Tim Cook guy (The one who dresses all in black and tries to pretend he is Steve Jobs) wasn't kidding when he said they would put a better camera on this model !

Most refrigerators and A/C compressors have a built in delay after a power outage to protect against frying components, but its still a good idea to turn these items off. Yesterday's restoration of power was remarkably clean. Normally it sags/surges/goes off/on etc. before stabilizing. Expecting another bad round of storms this afternoon. Its that time of the year. Hope Hawaii is doing ok.
