clicking "forgot password" at the home page takes you to edit password page which you need to log in with password to use. Clicking from the forum login page takes you to change password page, which you need password to enter.
Can't find forgot password page, tried manually guessing at forgot_password_form.php but got 404 error.

Can't retrieve password

It's a misnomer option.
In the past BOINC used an account key (or authenticator key).

If you click that option, you need to fill in the email address that you registered to Einstein with. Then you will get your account key sent by email.

If you then make sure you Log out, you can log back in again with the key you got through email.
Make sure you copy & paste the key though.

Paste the key in the Log in with account key option on the login window and check the "remember me" option at the bottom. Then you can go back to your account, Change password, fill in your password of choice twice and click "change password".

Just remember your password, or allow your browser to do so. :)

In case you don't have that e-mail with the account key anymore: You can also look up your authenticator key in the file account_einstein.phys.uwm.edu.xml , where it's enclosed in tags like this:
.....long hex string.....
