I tried to download SETI@Home, but it didn't recognize my password. I changed it. It still didn't work. I even tried my account key. What do I do?

I wonder if this is the same problem that Donna is having. Could there a bug related to the 5.2.2 attach screens?

Ricky,

Could you post what is in your Messages related to trying to attach to Seti?

Ricky, If it doesn't

Ricky,
If it doesn't recognize the password, you need to go to "your account" page for the project and change the password. Then try to attach to the project again.

Stick,
Getting a password error means BOINC successfully contacted the project. Otherwise the error would be "The URL you supplied is not that of a boinc based project. Please check the URL and try again".

You can actually test this yourself. Run the "attach project" dialog and enter a bogus URL and see what the error is - use both a non existent host and one thats a valid URL but doesn't host a BOINC project. Try again with a valid project url, but leave the email address blank when it asks for account information. Then try one more time, use your email address but enter the wrong password.

Hello Ricky I would try to

Hello Ricky

I would try to login using your newest password and e-mail to the Einstein webserver - remember that upper-case and lower-case are different, and obviously watch out for the cap-lock (been there, worn out the t-shirt). If all that works then we can assume an error with BOINC

It still doesn't work!

My exact error message:
10/23/2005 7:44:28 AM||Missing account key

I changed my password one final time, but it was no good.

I couldn't attach to SETI when I made an account anyway, so I tried to do it by getting one through Einstein. Didn't work, obviously.

One last question:
How do I report this error? I couldn't find anything!

Thanks Walt,

I did try some of your "false attach" suggestions and now I have a better feel for the new attachment process. I also noticed that my "rejected attachment attempts" were NOT recorded under the BOINC Messages tab. (I wonder what Donna and Ricky are thinking about me now, since I asked them to post their "failed attach messages".) This is a change from 4.45 and is one that makes troubleshooting a bit more difficult.

Ricky,

The main problem is that you are really not giving the sort of information needed for people to help you with your problem. There is at least a 90% probability that your problem is due to omissions on your part rather than a BOINC bug that needs to be reported. Please focus on trying to document in clear and precise detail what you have done. That way, I'm sure someone will be able to get you going very quickly.

Can you please answer these questions:-

1. What version of BOINC are you running?
2. Have you created an account over at Seti and received the email from them?
3. When you tried to attach to Seti, exactly how did you insert the required data?
4. Are you sure you used the correct Seti account data rather than EAH data?
5. When you talk about changing your password, which website are you doing it on?
6. When you selected your user name over at Seti did you use "Ricky" there as well as at EAH?

I tried to look you up over at Seti but I gave up when more than 100 "Ricky"'s turned up over there.

If you have done all the correct things over at Seti, please try again and report all the relevant messages you get with as many lines of context as possible. Please cut and paste the entire window contents if possible.

Cheers,
Gary.
