I received my invitation to join four days ago and downloaded the latest BOINC software, v4.25. I then attached the Einstein Project and things started to download. However I cannot download 'einstein_4.79_windows_intelx86.pdb'
. My log says the following:
17/03/2005 06:59:41|Einstein@Home|Started download of einstein_4.79_windows_intelx86.pdb
17/03/2005 06:59:42|Einstein@Home|Temporarily failed download of einstein_4.79_windows_intelx86.pdb
I've reset the project, removed it, re-added it and still get the same messages. Anyone know what I can do to get this file?

I am going to guess that you are on dialup. First, do not reset or detach. If you have access to a machine with the PDB file, copy it from there. Otherwisek go to the transfers page click on the failed download and then select retry in the left pane.

Ok John, I'm afraid my internet connection is broadband, I don't have access to a another machine the has the PDB file on as I'm new to this.
I tried the retry option in the downloads pane and I get the same messages that it is unable to download the file.

one of our team had this very same problem just some days ago:
http://einsteinathome.org/node/188764
he copied it from another computer.
maybe, you can generate the file yourself, its really tiny,
belongs into ../boinc/slots/0 (probably into ..slots/1 also, if you have HT or 2 Processors)
content is as follws:
..!..!projects!einstein.phys.uwm.edu!einstein_4.79_windows_intelx86.pdb
sorry - best I can do for the moment, you must replace each '!' by a backslash - it just vanishes, if I try to post it - similar with lt and gt - signs, needed to be htmlcoded...
thats all, doesn't look binary. date and time of mine are from today.
btw: is there a way to mail other users of this forum?

That file only links to a .PDB-file in the project folder that's about 3 MB in size. I belive it's the large file that's causing the problem here.
Sorry, but I have no idea how to fix the problem...

Just to complete this:
it was the long one you mentioned already.
