Poor kitty! We haven't had a problem this year with our 2 cats and 2 dogs, but we treat them regularly even though they all live indoors full time.
I went to "Moosefest," a gathering of diehard Northern Exposure fans. On the walking tour of Roslyn I slipped on some gravel, tried to break my fall with an extended arm, and ended up with a 2-part fracture of my proximal humerus.
It's been six weeks, so is pretty well healed, but will take a lot of work to get it functional again...
How are you doing? It's been a while since anyone here posted so here's a bump to the thread.
I had a computer glitch that caused me great consternation! A few $$$ to fix and only to have the problem repeat itself less than a day later. I think I figured it out to be the Norton Suite. So as of this evening I am finally back up and crunching! Yeah!
My goodness. How the cries of 'SEXIST PIG' would be hurting my eardrums if a man were to suggest such a thing for men. ;)
I'll tell you what..as soon as men work for less pay, have less chance of promotion, end up with smaller pensions, get all the crap jobs, get patronised every time they want to get the car fixed, are more likely to get beaten or murdered by their partners, end up doing most of the housework and childcare along with holding down one of the previously mentioned jobs then sure, you can have your own team. :-)

Of course, how silly of me not to realize that continuing to move in seperate directions is the most productive means for improving the situation.

Well as long as you don't do it again that's ok. Besides, Jude said men were welcome to join. :-)
So what would you do to improve the situation?
I didn't say I had the answers, but a 'chip on the shoulder' 'HE hit me first' response is almost always counterproductive.
Addressing your examples as best I can:
(are more likely to get beaten or murdered by their partners, end up doing most of the housework and childcare along with holding down one of the previously mentioned jobs)
Make better partner choices. One thing I've noticed in my life is 'nice guys' sleep alone far more often than the jerks who treat their women badly. Perhaps you can explain that to me.
(get patronised every time they want to get the car fixed)
Get educated on the subject and slap the jerk down with some solid facts.
(work for less pay, have less chance of promotion, end up with smaller pensions, get all the crap jobs,)
I've seen myself many companies these days making genuine efforts to redress this problem. All I can say is, people of good will are working on it, big changes don't happen overnight or even in a few years and some jerks will always be with us. (see also the 'chip on the shoulder/attitude comment above)
These days, now that tens of millions of jobs have been outsourced beyond our borders, most people are facing the same thing. It's no longer, IMHO, so much sexism as the 'right school, right fraternity, right contacts and family' problem with the labor market so tight.
Yes. I stand guilty of trying to use reason and conscious thought on the issues instead of blindly parroting the Political Correctness Script.

Not sure what you are referring to there.

I'm sure most men think of themselves as 'nice guys' but studies have shown that men do have a distorted perception of how much they actually do about the house..and I'm not sure what you're saying is actually true. Nice guys are more likely to end up in a lasting relationship.

Sadly this doesn't work. Guys will always assume that I don't know anything about cars because I am a woman. It doesn't matter that I know more about cars than I do about cooking. I still get patronised.

Yes there are efforts being made, but there is still along way to go. The power imbalance between men and women is still a problem and the factors you have talked about will have an even bigger effect on women than on men.

I've never seen the Political Correctness Script. All I've got to go on is my own experience as a woman, the experiences of all the other women I've ever talked to and all the books and studies I've read on the subject (and even though a lot of those books are written by women, I'm sure they still use reason and conscious thought to come to their conclusions) .

I'm so sorry, Enchanted! I've been blithely crunching along assuming all is well. I checked our statistics tonight and saw that you have been missing for a while, so came here to find out you've been having problems. Rats!
So, I'm doing well. No more crises. Is there anything I can do to help you get going again? Again, I'm sorry for not checking in sooner. Some team leader, eh?
Just thought i'd add my little piece in the battle for equal pay for equal work. I just saw a display of cushions with comic mottos in a souvenire shop in North Berwick.

You may not think it but you were lucky it was a clean break. A dislocated shoulder is often the outcome of the type of fall you describe and that can lead to long term problems. Here am i teaching granny ( nursie ) to suck eggs. Ach well, hope you managed to see most of the one moose town before you high dived.
