i put it on snooze and then a while later it just starts up even though i put in pref to wait 3 min o f inactivity and no battery use. it just wont do what i say. i dont want to get rid of the program but it keeps my harddrive spinning all the time.

Snooze works for an hour, after that it automatically unsnoozes.
As for the preferences you set, did you set them through the web site, or through the BOINC Manager Advanced preferences? Did you set any preferences through the latter? I ask as they override the web site preferences.
So please, could you post the contents of your global_prefs.xml and if it exists the global_prefs_override.xml files, please? You can find these in your Data directory, which on the Mac is by default at /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/

Do you have Run based on preferences selected in BOINC Manager's Activity menu?
