So I'm running Linux and KDE with a color scheme I really like. Unfortunately, boincmgr seems to be a gnome app and that makes some aweful look and when not in advanced view, I can see even less numbers.

Can I tweak some boincmgr settings to get this running properly? I was considering using my Windows VM to use the manager, but that'll be some huge waste of ressources because I basically have no need for booting Windows anymore.

The boards use BBCODE.  Have you read the BBCODE help stuff below the message composition window to learn how to use img tags?

I can actually see your images as I compose this reply.  Maybe they'll disappear when I actually submit the reply.   They are huge and will stretch the window more than double the available width which will annoy other users as they try to read your messages and replies without having to sideways scroll all the time.  It would really be appreciated if you use the option in the img tag to shrink the image to fit the available width.

To answer your question,  I don't know any details about changing BOINC Manager itself.  I use KDE as well with the Oxygen theme (which came as default when I started many years ago) and BOINC Manager fits in just fine.  I don't really care about the theme as long as what I want to look at is very clear and easily readable.  However I do seem to remember that within KDE settings there were some knobs (somewhere) for changing the appearance of Gnome apps.  Have you explored that?

PS:  I've just previewed the above and there are your images in the preview.  They stretch the whole window way off the side of my wide screen monitor so I do hope they do disappear when I click 'Post Comment' :-).

EDIT:  Nope, they sure didn't.  I have no idea why they show now but not in the original message to which I responded with the quote option.  Maybe (somehow) when you 'quote' a previous message, something gets "corrected" somehow when loading what is being replied to.  Obviously this is something the Devs need to sort out.

Cheers,
Gary.

You can launch gtk3 apps with

You can launch gtk3 apps with e.g.

GTK_THEME=Adwaita boincmgr

where Adwaita is the name of a gtk3 theme (you have installed).

He IS running with the

He IS running with the Adwaita theme and that is why the Manager shows up so bungled.

The Manager does not support Dark Mode. This is a long open BOINC issue. [Manager] Support dark theme mode #3115

And a more recent issue that was closed and added to Issue#3115 Looks terrible on Adwaita-Dark GTK theme

Can't do anything about it till the Manager is reworked to allow Dark theming.  The underlying problem is with the WxWidgets library that is used for the Manager.  The Manager code either needs to remove the use of WxWidgets or wait for WxWidgets to be updated to handle dark themes.
