I know it is a Windows XP Service Pack 2 Firewall issue because BOINC cannot connect since updating to SP2 and install Windows Security software. I turned Firewall off but still will not connect. Does ANYONE know of a work around? I have a newer system, PLENTY o' power and memory and BOINC was working fine before. But everytime I do anything with Windows Security software on any of my 3 machines, BOINC will not connect. HELP!

BOINC shows disconnected

What Version of the CC are you running?

Have you given BOINC core client and Boinc gui permission to connect in the firewall, look under exceptions......

I have 4.25 on one machine,

I have 4.25 on one machine, 4.43 on the other with same problem. BOINC was on the exceptions list on one machine and I added it to the other. I looked on the list and only BOINC Manager shows up. I added there was an entry that just said BOINC and I added it and it did say BOINC Core Client Manager. STILL will not connect. I tried "adding computer" in the File drop down, etc. What puzzles me is that until I did some housekeeping on my machine, it was running fine. Housekeeping to me was updating virus scanner (changed from one service to the other) and updating Windows SP2. Even with all firewalls and scanners off I get "Disconnected". I unistalled and reinstalled too. I now have 4.43 on both machines. Both machines set up pretty much the same and are networked and networked to my laptop as well. Could the network setup have something to do with it? I have always been behind a router so i have discounted that.

BTW, I like the pic on your post...

P.S. When I "select Computer" from File menu in BOINC Manager, I then select or type in "localhost" as suggested on another string and that client was successful after a couple of tries. All I get is "X Connection Failed" in a popup and it says "Disconnected" on the bottom of the BOINC Manager window.

You have something blocking Boinc from connecting, check the anti virus setup real close maybe it has something that is stopping it...You may want to check the router just to be sure.....

Yes, to be sure there is something affecting it. I don't give up easily but I can't work on it continuously. I will surely post a fix when I find one as I know that I am not the only one with this problem. Thanx for your input and suggestions
