I noticed, that after I install the BOINC application and join EAH and set boinc to run as service as user LOCAL_SERVICE and disallow it from interaction with desktop - I can't use windows build in 3D opengl screensavers. If I do, the screensaver hangs up. It takes several minutes to return to windows from screensaver.

Applies to boinc v. 4.24 and 4.25 and WinXPPro.

BOINC as a service and 3D opengl screensavers

This is a known issue.

Quote from the Boinc download page:

Known issues
If BOINC runs at the same time as Windows XP 3D screensavers, the system becomes sluggish and unresponsive.

End quote.

Using any "active"

Using any "active" screensaver will degrade the performance of BOINC or any other DC project. You can use your cpu cycles for BOINC processing or bouncing a ball around the screen, it's your choice. To maximize BOINC performance, use something like the "Windows XP" or "Blank". screensavers.

just a thought

be sure when you delete them that windows doesn't give some sort of errormessage (setting a different screensaver should do the trick)

if they see an errormessage they will be alerted and might notice while not noticing a simple delete
