Occaisionally the BOINC screensaver locks up the screen on my computer and I have to reboot to correct the problem. This happened iniyially when I switched from SETI to the new BOINC system and I ended up stopping to use the program in disgust for for several months. I have just downloaded the latest version and it still has the same problem. I was a SETI user for many years, but this continuing problem has finished this for me. Unless I hear there directly that there is a fix, I am done forever.

BOINC Screensaver Locks Up My Screen

First off the screen saver is not a screen saver, it's a depiction of what the data you are working with is doing. It takes processing time. Some video cards do not like it, because it is so intense on the memory. What is worse is you use a shared memory video card (meaning the RAM on your computer acts as both video and regular memory), which slows it down even more.

The best suggestion is to shut off the monitor, or use a blank or non-3D screen saver. The screen saver does not need to run to run the software. If you want to see the pretty pictures once in a while, go ahead and use the show graphics, but let the software run, and use the power button on the monitor, or a less intense screen saver.

I am astounded that this problem has not been fixed.
I stopped participating years ago because of this problem.
I just downloaded the latest BOINC and discovered the SAME FREAKIN PROBLEM.

@ Steve. If it is a problem,

@ Steve. If it is a problem, is there any reason why you can't just turn the screen saver off?
