Hello,
I have a PowerMac, 2 CPU's. before this week, I was connected to 2 projects: seti@home and Einstein. But when I left my computer unattended for a couple of days (sometimes even 1 day), it hangs completely. Only doing a hard restart helps.
This is also when I do a fresh restart the mac and only start up Boinc.
Well actually, it was not completely dead, but almost. Logs had a few small entries during the "dead" period.
When I removed Einstein beginning of this week, the computer has run flawlessy.
On behalf of some friends I ran a "sample" command on the process. That sample ran, but for Einstein it always reported a "corrupted stack" or that the command had to "truncate" the stack or something of that kind.
So I guess that Einstein has some problems on my machine.
I let Boinc run on 2 processors for 100%.
Kind regards,
Jos Potargent

Boinc hangs Mac because of Einstein
)
Here are my suggestions: 1) try booting from the install disk and using Disk Utility to check/repair the disk and software. If that doesn't solve it, 2) detach from Einstein then re-attach. Detaching will delete the current version of Einstein on your system and re-attaching will install a fresh copy of the Einstein application. Unfortunately, doing so will also trash all unfinished work units on your machine, so you might want to wait until there is no work waiting to be crunched.
Hope this helps.
