For a year ago I had deleted the program from my computer.. Now I have installed it again. And I remember why I had deleted it before. Computer after startup runs slow for a while. I looked in Task manager and found out it runs in background. Boinc.exe and Eistein and manager. Don't know why, I had deactivated it in the setup of boinc. still it runs. I had checked for a virus. With my own program and an external program. Why is it doing that? When I want to use my computer I don't want that program running. Hope someone can help me out with this problem.

Boinc in background
)
Hi!
Boinc can be installed in many ways under Windows see here. If you want full control over when Boinc starts, I guess it's best to install as a single user installation and remove it from the start->Startup menu list. You will then have to start BOINC manually.
An alternative might be to configure BOINC via the web-preferences to run only at a certain time window (say, at night) to make sure it doesn't interfere with your routine work on your PCs.

Boinc is designed to run in the background using all of the cpu that you, or some other program, are not using. When you do a click on an icon to start a program, Boinc will give up its use of the cpu so the other program can run. Unfortunately this is not an instant process, but it is computerized so it is pretty fast. Boinc is set to run at the lowest priority of any task on your pc. That means that if you have, for instance, your anti-virus program scheduled to run at 3am to scan your pc, then when it starts Boinc will automatically give up full use of the cpu and only use whatever part of the cpu your anti-virus is not using. That is part of the reason why workunits from the projects can run for different times. You can also set Boinc to only run at night for instance. This last part works well for people that run Boinc on work computers, ALWAYS get permission, or just think it interferes too much with their daily lives. If this last part interests you just ask and we will help you get to those settings.

Mikey, he already asked for help. ;-)
Spaceduck, can you post the contents of your global_prefs.xml file here, please? Also the contents of the global_prefs_override.xml file if it exists. You can find it (or them) in your BOINC Data directory, by default at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\ (although this directory may be hidden, so make sure you Show hidden files and folders).
With thanks. :)

Whoops, sorry
He could also set it up to only run in the evening/night time hours if he wishes.
