During updating form BOINC 5.10.45 to 6.2.19 under Win2KP SP4 I got the error 1714: Could not deinstall old version (or similar text). This happened also when I not only suspended all projects and tasks but also closed BOINC. After repairing the former version during reinstallation every things are running well.
I remember, that similar problems occured at advent of version 5.x.y . The next version where running fine.

Unfortunately this didn´t help. After applying the msicleanup file the same error occured at installation of vers. 6.2.19. After that I had to reinstall the old version 5.10.45. A repair of this version was not possible. But the reinstallation was much quicker. Still many thanks for the reply.

I think at this point since the repair installation was not available, you need to uninstall 5.10.45 through Add/Remove Programs and then install 6.2.19 if I'm reading the instructions right.

Usually you can do the repair install, then immediately install the latest version of BOINC on top of the old version. This won't be possible with BOINC 4.19 and newer versions

If you do decide to continue trying to intall the latest version, you may want to set Boinc Manager to No New Task and wait till the tasks in your cache have completed before continuing, in case you have to go to one of the further steps of deleting the Boinc folder.

I have adapted the FAQ, added

I have adapted the FAQ, added the search for the BOINC.MSI files and deleting them. This can be done by hand, as the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility may not find all older BOINC.MSI files, or it may point to the wrong one (aka, not the corrupt one).
