"CPU Time", "Progress" and "To Completion" now seem to work in a very inscrutable way.
At present I am working through an Einstein WU. They alays take about 13 hrs.
My entries are 6.10, 47.49%, 10.14 !
There is no way that my machine is going to take 10.14+6.10=16.24 to crunch this. In fact 6.10 is about 47% of about 13hrs.

NatPhil64,

I noticed this behavior when testing some of the Boinc beta releases and posted in the beginning of a thread: Cafe Einstein - New Windows core client.... I'm sorry to hear that it has not been changed, but from the explanation I was given in that thread, I really didn't expect it would be remedied. I expressed a rather strong opinion there, and really can't add any more. My guess is that those running Boinc 5.x will just have to live with it.

Regards,

Michael

Sorry, that is about the only thread I didn't look at before posting here.

It is not the only problem I have with 5.2.5, though. It seems very reluctant to update the 'work' page to reflect the fact that it is now working on the next job. When it is 'forced' to do so, you can find that it is several hours into next one.

Nor can I see why the lh pane is so wide, so that it is difficult to get to see all the details in the adjustable columns. The buttons do not require so much space. Am I a whinger? Probably! :-)

Regards,

NatPhil64

I've read about the new result reporting, and it was a flaw in the 4.x version to update almost immediately. The reason for the change is to eliminate unnecessary server contacts (waiting until next scheduled contact to report, instead of making 2 discreet contacts), to minimize the load on the server.

Oops!
Anyway, I'm about to go back to version 4.xy which I was on. This version 5.ab just will not cut it. Refuses, much of the time, to recognise that I am on broadband and offers me dialup connections - it must be joking. Now it wants me to remember my unbelievably long ID number (there are not so many atoms in the universe ). And it just will not tell ME how long the WU has to go, which the previous one would do - fairly accurately. And the lh pane of the is so wide that In cannot see all the details of my WU.

Bye, babe, I think

Hello Michael You may want

Hello Michael

You may want to try out the 5.2.6 version released 30/10 - would be interesting to see what has been fixed (I am trying it out now). BTW that irritation mentioned by NatPhil64 only appies initially - after a couple of work units the time taken seems to slowly get closer and closer to actual time - BOINC hedging its bets (grin)...

I saw the same "To

I saw the same "To Completion" problem and posted a question in the BOINC boards - got no answer. I also did some looking to see if I could determine the algorithm being used, and where the error was, and did indeed identify what I believe to be the problem.

Select Options, Connections, "Use my LAN connection".

That option would not 'take'. Anyway, I'm back on 4.45 - which works perfectly :-)
