BOINC 4.45 local host Glitch

When on the Projects page of BOINC Manager 4.45 (local host), one can select the project of interest and the WebSite radio button will reflect the home page for that project. When selected on ProteinPredictor, Einstein or Lattice, clicking on that radio button does not take me to the homepage, in fact, the system locks up and requires a reboot.

Granted, I'm using old technology (WinME), but the other projects (SETI, and Orbit) work properly -- any ideas???

Your computers are hidden, so don't have any idea about what you're running on, like memory and processor.

Which browser does it launch when it works properly? Can you move the mouse around when the system is locked up? Do you see (or hear) a lot of hard disk activity while its locked up? And, how long do you wait before rebooting?

Some things you can do:

Take a look in the account_(project).xml files in the BOINC directory, at the tags. Do the addresses look OK? For Einstein@Home you should see:

http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/

You can try the address in a browser yourself, copy and paste it into the address line on your browser. Or test Windows "auto launch" facility by pasting it into the "run" box:

Copy the URL from the account_(project).xml file (the http://...... part, not the xml tags)

Click "Start", "Run", press ctrl-v. (thats hold the control key down and press the V key, then release the control key). That will paste the URL into the run box. Click "Ok".

The default browser should automatically launch and display the projects home page.

Thanks for the comments, Walt --

Main computer is celeron 1.0gig w/512meg, with WindowsME for OS and IE6.

Problem presents itself only when using the radio button from within BOINC manager, and fails when selecting Einstein, ProteinPredictor or Lattice. If I highlight and select either SETI@home or Orbit@home, the system properly transfers to the home page of the specific project. System actually continues to run, just the application (BOINC Manager) locks up. Have to kill application completely and do a soft reboot to continue. No weird sounds from hard drive - application just hangs.

If I use IE6 favorites, they all work properly, so that doesn't seem to be an issue here. I have not looked at the .xml files in the three projects as yet, so I cannot confirm or deny the proper tags are there. I'll check them, and post again....

Walt -- I looked at all

Message 12795 in response to message 12794

Walt --

I looked at all the account_(project).xml files in the BOINC directory as you suggested, and compared the tags for each of the failing projects (Einstein, ProteinPredictor and Lattice) with the saved url tags in my favorites section of the default browser ... they are identical. I also compared the two projects that work (SETI@home and Orbit@home), looking at the same files for these projects, they also are identical.

I have no idea as to why some project(s) would work and others not work, unless there is some difference in the way the various projects provide the url tag to the BOINC client local program. I will continue to search for an answer...
