i have "connect to" set to 0.04 so i only have one WU and a new downloaded just before the current is finished. after restarting the computer, BOINC download a second WU. the current one still have over 25H to run. only running Einstein.

BOINC 4.43 downloads extra WU after computer restart

You have set your connect to at less than an hour. 0.04 days means that BOINC thinks you may run out of work every 3456 seconds. (24 hours times 3600 seconds times 0.04 = 3456 seconds)

If you try a more realistic way of connect to, like 1 day, you may get only one unit per time. Especially with your runtime of 29 hours per unit!

I am not shore that would

I am not shore that would help. If i did that i would have 1 day less margin towards the deadline. I have been running with the "connect to" setting =0.01-0.04 almost since i joined this project with BOINC 4.13-4.19. The only problem i have encountered was that Einstein is a bit unreliable in its calculations of the remaining time in the last minutes, so i had to back of to 0.04 to actually get a new WU downloaded before i ran out of work. If it was the "connect to" setting it would download another WU every time i restart the computer, but it doesn't. It only downloads another WU if i only have one on the system. If i abort the second WU and reboot, it doesn't download a WU. if i tell BOINC not to get more work from Einstein and reboot i wont get a WU directly after reboot or directly then i allow new work.

So to me it seems that something goes wrong the BOINC starts. A similar bug have been reported with the earlier dev versions, but thought to be fixed. I only wanted to report to John that the problem hadn't been fully fixed and that it wasn't only effecting CPDN.

Okay, then why not try a connect to of 0.1, or at least anything higher than you've been using so far.

Oh, and what do you mean by "reboot"? Reboot the PC, or exit Boinc and restarting it? If the first, then let me assure you that there's totally no need for that. You don't even need to exit Boinc, after you told it to Suspend or No new work. The effect is instantanious.

0.04 is an okay queue. There is a known bug with 4.43 that can do this. A fix has been checked in, and it should not do this in 4.44.

My appologies for the extra WUs. I hope that they will get done on time.

Definitely nothing to do with

Definitely nothing to do with the "connect to" setting. I have just finished a WU and reported it so i just had one unit on the work tab( 29H to go). Just to test you theory i set my "connect to" setting to 1 day and updated the project. i removed the no more work restriction. This time i started the test by logging out from windows 2000 and directly logging in again. since BOINC is installed in the recommended way(first option), BOINC exits totally then i log out. then i log in again BOINC starts fresh. To my surprise i discovered that i just gotten the second WU. Previously i only tested this by shutting down the power to the computer completely. The second WU only downloads directly then BOINC starts, so my conclusion is that: Then BOINC starts it doesn't see how much work there is on the client in the starting moment. possibly it doesn't see the WU that is running and therefore thinks that the client is totally out of work. it would be interesting to know if the people that have 2 CPDN units downloaded had CPDN running then BOINC downloaded the second WU.

John you just posted while i did this test. I will try 4.44 then it comes out and report my finding here.

Thanks
