I don't understand the following log entries.

Does this mean that my machine is conducting a benchmark every hour which would slow down the number crunching process. Or does this indicade that my given preferences to contact the server 0.25 times a day are overridden?

Is Boinc 4.37 overriding the preferences?

No.
We have the unfortunate problem that the word "Schedule" is properly used for two different activities.
The Scheduler is the server-side software that selects Work Units to be processed on your computer.
The BOINC Daemon also has a "scheduler" that selects from the downloaded Work Units the one that should be run each and every hour. You are seeing a status message to the effect that the CPU is going to have work selected and "scheduled" to run within the next time interval.
Because you have the time set to do this every hour, that is why you see this message once an hour.
Many thanks for your help.

Many thanks for your help. Actually there should be no need for the Daemon scheduler-thing as I participate in E@H solely. I adjusted the prefs accordingly to silence the log.

Well, BOINC is really designed around the multi-project concept and therefor has all those features you are not using ... :)
I would suggest that in this case you set your switching time to a higher value so that you don't re-evaluate changing to another project when there is none in the queue. Pick a number that is higher than the normal time to complete a work unit.

I think no one is thinking about holidays.
We people in europe have much of it.
I allways have to suspend einstein when i´m travelling because of the short deadline.
When i go on holiday on saturday maybe 5am and be back on next saturday 10am the deadline is missed.

Actually, the new code in the Daemon Work Scheduler addresses these very issues. However, if you are only manually connecting to the Internet, yes, you would have to not do Einstein@Home work.
You signature indicates that you do process work for two projects and so, before you leave you would need to tell BOINC to not download new Einstein@Home work, then suspend it when that project has exhausted the work in the Work BUffer, upload the results, vacation, upload all the SETI@Home work completed with Einstein@Home enabled and the large debt built up should cause you to download and process Einstein@Home for a little while till the projects are back in balance.
