Does anyone know the crazy history behind how amd relabeled the same card with different names rx 200series & rx 300series VS hd6000series & hd7000series & hd 8000series & hd9000series. Smells like a schizophrenic marketing dept. to me.

Because of this I can only understand 1/2 of our amd postings. I am used to the Rx nomenclature. I have links on my favorites list of the 'thousands series' but I usually don't even bother looking them up unless it's really important. I hope someday amd will KILL this nonsense. That is if I remain with amd.

the bizarre evolution of the amd gpu numbering system

maybe they didn't want the numbers to get too high. starting over might be a better idea than releasing an hd10000 series.

The R series started out as a downgrade from the 7900 series, they left something off that they thought didn't affect gamers and made a cheaper card in the process. But it affected us crunchers ALOT and some projects STILL have problems with it. They have continued the updating process and now make 4gb R series cards that are more powerful than the original 7900 series cards, they still don't have that thing they took off though, I have forgotten what it was though.

I use 7 Rx cards on Einstein and I have no problems. I don't have any lower than an Rx250. The Rx250 does have problems at seti though.

MilkyWay has issues too with some R series cards, lots of fiddling needed to make it work, if it does.
