I have one computer that has AVG 7.5 network edition installed. (it's a legal copy) This computer requires a reboot to finish its update process whenever the Einstein app is in memory. (ie, visible in the process tab of task manager) It doesn't need to be running, just loaded in memory. The Einstein app is Hierarchical all-sky pulsar search 4.26. This computer currently has XP SP3 installed, but it did the same under SP2.

Maybe this would be something that should be discussed on AVG support forum (if there is something like that). No anti-virus software should block on update just by the presence of a normal "userspace" process (tha's inviting malware to do just that: block AV update).

Anyway I guess AVG experts will be better qualified to tell what might block the update.

Oh better not do that. They've never heard of BOINC, while they assume all the wrong things if you tell them you have more than one computer (or a farm, then you're automatically deemed to have a company!). ;-)

After diagnosing on several machines, it looks like the problem is related to XP SP3. Thanks for the reply though.
