Perhaps you didn't set one? Or you didn't follow the format or size rules?
Format: JPG or PNG. Size: at most 4 KB, 100x100 pixels
But it's really easiest to make a gravatar, as that links to your email address. Easy when you want to use the same avatar in different other places.

I have uploaded one ("Profile") but I dont' find it in my posts nevertheless...
they say beyond the image:
"Your profile will be made visible to other people as soon as it has been approved by the project. This may take up to a few days. "
...but it's almost 2 weeks from now... :?:

Your profile is something different. It's shown by the head-picture next to your name. An avatar is the small picture underneath one's name, such as the Firefly image that I have.
So what did you try to set?
I can look at your profile, there's just nothing visible in it.

I uploaded my avatar img in my profile assuming that would show it in my postings - but for the postings was what I actually wanted, just like your firefly.
