They gave their time...They still give their time...They gave their lives...They still give their lives...They are there...and have been there...every day...Doing a job that most of us would rather not do.
Here's a big thank you to all of the veterans who have served our nations to win the wars...and keep the peace.

While we remember the veterans of the just wars and the peace they gave their lives for let us also remember the war criminals who have recently upset that peace and made a mockery of the veterans we honor today. Bush, Cheney, Rice and Rumsfeld... bring them to trial.

In our town, it's good to know that the 'Lest We Forget' on the cenotaph hasn't been forgotten! In one of the churches, at the base of some of the stained glass windows and some pews, are dedications to the fallen. Even some youths are picking up on the point that if a family name is listed, then there don't seem to be many/any about by that name now.
So yes, death when you're young means you don't get to have kids like the rest did. Their futures ended then and there ..... and ours was so uncertain too. I hope it never becomes too easy for us to forget that simple point!

One of the unusual aspects
)
One of the unusual aspects with the turn to remembering the Armistice yesterday, was some unusual articles on local radio here in the East side of the UK.
Apparently, across the UK there is 30 Thankful Villages. A Thankful Village is one where there is no remembrance Cenotaph to be found, and 3 of these villages lie in my County.
These were villages whose young men voluntarily enlisted, like the res of the country, for service during the Great War (WWI), and, although many were wounded, all the veterans survived their war and returned (hence no Cenotaph).
One of our 3 Thankful Villages also sent men to fight in WWII and all returned alive, as well.
A rare thing these days?

YES! As a veteran of the Viet Nam conflict, wounded then and now, I took the pledge of Chief Joseph of the Nez Pearce, "I will make no more war, forever." Those that do, especially when based on lies, should be brought before the world court as war criminals.
