I tried overclocking the 5 to 3000 MHz but it hung. I've since gotten an official RPi power supply and will try again JIC it was the cheap supply I could buy asap when I got the 5 (it meets the power specs).

I just overclocked the RPi 5 from 2.4 GHz to 3.0 GHz, a 25% speed gain. It hasn't hung in 9 hours. :)

It's running hotter, up from 58°C/136°F to 65°C/149°F.

This time I left the GPU at its normal 800 MHz since BOINC doesn't use it. I won't bother diagnosing if it was the cheap power supply or GPU overclocking that made it unstable.

I'll wait awhile to see how much the RAC increases.

Nice.  In my research I found the Ampere CPU, but only in pre-built servers including stuff I don't need for crunching and priced beyond what I'd pay.  Thanks for the link =]

Your welcome.  If I wasn't having a vehicle repair crises I would probably have ordered one by now.

Hi, I just got a new laptop -

Hi, I just got a new laptop - it's a Microsoft Copilot+ PC Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x with the new ARM64 Snapdragon X Elite CPU and Windows 11 ARM.
I'm wondering what are the plans for releasing native Einstein@home client apps compiled for Windows 11 ARM64? Right now I finished some runs using the x86 client, but I can imagine the speed was much slower due to the emulation comparing to native ARM64 binary. Thanks

Unless there is a major surge in Windows on ARM systems you probably will not see a native version in the near future.

Source code is available.  So you could take some kind of intro course to developing on your system.  And then take a copy of a Windows cpu app and see if you can cross compile/port it to the native WoA platform.  Then other WoA systems could beta test/run production using the Anonymous platform tools.

Another possibility would be to "dual boot" your system into say Ubuntu for ARM.  Then you should be able to run at least the GBT Arm app.  Installing Ubuntu/ARM directly on your system is probably not a good/immediate idea.  So try creating a Live CDROM on a usb stick and seeing if you can run in "test" mode without installing it on your SSD.

I think I have even run across some kind of usb/external drive trick that would allow you to boot/run Ubuntu/ARM on a real external HDD or large Usb stick. The advantage is any changes you make won't go away the way they would on the "Live CDROM" test install.

HTH,

Apparently formal support for this CPU running Ubuntu has been announced by Qualcomm.

Note I don't plan to use

Note I don't plan to use Linux on ARM. There is a high chance that Windows machines runnning on ARM will become similarly popular as Mac on ARM - Mac has now basically switched completely from x86/x64 to ARM.
