Hello all,

Does anyone have a working app_info.xml for both CPU and GPU(cuda)?

I have two computers with GPUs (one 8800GT and one 560TI) that are constantly underperforming lately and GPU load is 66% on the first and only 50% on the last using the regular setup. That sux alot so I need more WU per GPU.

I tried to use a app_info.xml that I found on this forum but it lacked the Arecibo app and more.

We(the community) should be able to have a always up to date version in this forum right?

My best from a insanely (for the season) warm Stockholm.

Anyone with a working app_info.xml?

Hi,

here is my app_info file, which I'm using. It runs two parallel Arecibo tasks at the GPU and all (even some older) applications for the CPU, except the CPU version of Arecibo (I crunch them with the GPU).

Cheers

Sorry, but don't even think

Sorry, but don't even think about doing that on the 8800GT: it doesn't have the task-switching support needed to efficiently manage two tasks. And with 512MB VRAM, you couldn't fit two Einstein tasks on it at the same time, either.

thanks for your help. I'm using it on my 560Ti as of yesterday.

I will skip it on the 8800GT.

How come the full power isn't utilized?

Ive had a drop in avg daily points on the 8800GT machine from 4750 -> 3000 between the 13th of november and now.

That is a 33% drop without any hardware changes... :(

All of your CUDA-Tasks were marked as invalid!!!

But I don't know why.

Hmm yes.. haven't looked in

Hmm yes.. haven't looked in the statics on that computer before. Strange.

I have downclocked it know to see if things turn out different..

well since I stopped

well since I stopped overclocking the card I've gotten 6 cuda tasks validated. Thats good of course but it's sad that overclocking the card broke the tasks since I've had no problems with stability.

Dont trust on Furmark or other tests of the kind, they are not even close to stress the cards in the same way as CUDA apps do.

On big issue of the 560Ti is that they are undervolted and this becomes a serious thing when overclocking. If you want to try to OC again or you see that you get some invalid results even without OC then you will need to adjust the GPU core voltage.

Anyway if you are crunching only for Einstein OC'ing the GPU its not worth as the speed up is barely noticeable, it could give you better results just running 2 concurrent WUs... (check first with GPU-Z the work load, if its over 80% crunching just one WU then you wont get any noticeable beneffit running 2...)

Hallo Rechenkuenstler! In

Hallo Rechenkuenstler!
In your app_info-file there are some no longer actual application noted like S5GC1HF and I believe also some older BRP-apps, but I´m missing S6Bucket. What of them can I delete and what has to become added? I believe this is more than just the part that contains the app-name?

I tried the appp_info from Novotno, Message 115734 posted 25. Jan. 2012 8:58:45. But this doesn´t crunch the S6Bucket files, the screensaver doesn´t work, in the list of results under application is noted "Anonymous platform" etc. But this app-info-file is of course very short, may be too short.

Kind regards
Martin

Hi Martin,

your correct, that this app_info contains also older program versions. This is due to the fact, that there is always a phase during the change from one project to a new one, where you can get old and new WU's.

But the file is well crunching S6_Bucket WU. Here are the relevant entries.

einstein_S6Bucket
Gravitational Wave S6 GC search 1.01 (SSE2)

einstein_S5R6_3.01_graphics_windows_intelx86.exe

einstein_S6Bucket_1.01_windows_intelx86__SSE2.exe

einstein_S6Bucket
101
1.000000
1.000000
SSE2
6.13.0

einstein_S6Bucket_1.01_windows_intelx86__SSE2.exe

where einstein_S5R6_3.01_graphics_windows_intelx86.exe is correct, because it is also used for S6_Bucket.

So if you do not crunch S6_Bucket WU, this might have two reasons. If you use an app_info file, you have to download all files manualy. Please check, if you have them all.
The second reason might be, that E@H sends out only very view number of WU and you don't get some of these. But the app_info file definitly works with S6_Bucket
