Is anybody watching, or has watched the XFL Football games?

Your thoughts...?

My thoughts:  I think the game is slower than the NFL, more like college football.  Except for some major rules changes, it's football...!

What did you expect?

My neighbors son was a backup for one of the teams until someone else took his spot and the son went back to selling protein stuff online. I haven't watch since.

Today's game was the first one, so you haven't missed much.  I'll watch more of the second one and see what it's all about.

I watched the game last night and it's okay but alot of the players are former NFL players and that means the play they were NOT making is why they are FORMER NFL players, waaaaay too many dropped passes, a muffed punt, missed field goals etc! Now I DO like some of the rules changes they made so they are exactly like College or the NFL, I especially like the way they handle kickoff to encourage returns which the NFL is trying to phase out because of the speed the players are hitting each other, the XFL seems to have that figured out. I also like the one foot etc in instead of 2 feet as it encourages more Offense and less Defense, though last night the Defense had ALOT of sacks which to me showed why the QB's are no long in the NFL. Holding the ball for 5+ seconds is on you dude NOT your O-Line!! I also like that the players on the side line can see video replays of each play while looking at their tablets instead of still pictures like the NFL does. And The Rock owning a Team is very nice, not a Billionaire but certainly not poor either. The Head Coaches last night were a mixture of never was one before to a former NFL Head Coach for several Teams and BOTH were not happy with the play of their players which the broadcast showed alot of which to me was a good thing...passion for the game.

All in all I will be watching again tonight to see how it compares but it's entertaining and that's the whole point.

The Rock not only owns a Team, but I think he is part owner of the XFL.  Certainly doesn't hurt the exposure of the league.

I agree with all that you said about the league and the league play.  It's a patch work of players, of ex-NFL, NFL wannabes, former CFL players, and the like.  But you can't blame the league for trying something a bit different.  The NFL is the biggest (at least in the USA) spectator draw in pro-ball sports, by far, which includes TV.  And who knows, maybe in time, the XFL will merge with the USFL and become a competitor to the NFL.  But that is many years away, if it ever happens.

Personally I would love to see the "Super Bowl" include the XFL at some point, maybe at the playoff level so more Teams are involved or between the NFL and XFL winners.  But that would mean ALOT better play and players in the XFL and more Teams too.

Today I liked the way the St Louis Team won the game by taking advantage of the scoring rules that are not even a fly on the table for the NFL, it was cool and fun to watch.

Yep!  I agree with you that the Super Bowl should include more Leagues in it.  But the XFL needs to increase it's number of teams to be somewhat closer to the NFL.  And of course the USFL is starting up when the XFL league championship play is over with.  And the USFL is finished with their championship play just in time for the NFL to start up again.  Isn't this great?  FOOTBALL all year long!

But alas...  if the XFL & USFL eventually join up, they would have to play when the NFL does not play so we can still have football all year.  Then the championship play times will need to be worked out.  "Not my problem" as the saying goes.  As I understand it, the NFL is trying to get other countries involved in the NFL.  With the impact they're making, I dunno...  just maybe... !

I know Germany and England have talked about having their own NFL Teams but don't know how far that's progressed beyond 'hey that's a great idea'. But YES I think it would be great if he Super Bowl included multiple Leagues but the play needs to be similar enough so the game is not a laughing stock. And yes I love the idea of year round football but the MLB, NBA and MLS Leagues make disagree.

Don't forget the NHL!  I care very little about MLB, I used to, but as I got older it put me to sleep by the 4th or 5th inning.  MLS is growing in this country, but I don't think they're big enough to worry about yet.  The NBA, now there's a sport.  I've really gotten into it, yet I never played organized basketball, not even in high school.

It's tough being a second fiddle to a national pass time like the NFL.  Take a back seat MLB!  ( did I just say that with my fingers? )
