Since animal rights is a powder keg waiting to go off, I started this thread in the hopes that particular debate would move here as opposed to the TLPTP thread.

To start things off, let's say we have a spirited debate without the traditional flaming this subject is a magnet for. I know, bad grammar there...

I'll start things off in this thread:

@Chris - I respectfully request you consider that Mikeys stated method of driving off squirrels is, even tho it's a pellet/bb gun, non-lethal.

Don't consider my request as supporting Mikeys, yours, or anybody elses position on this. I"m simply attempting to start a dialogue where perhaps all of us can learn something about others feelings on the matter.

Ok, I've stuck my nose in enough for one day...

Respectfully submitted,

Phil

Animal Rights

Hi Phil :) How are you?

I'm very fond of the squirrels that visit my garden but I do know the frustration they cause to friends who, after putting a lot of hard work into theirs, find them being pilfered by furry little hands, then having the same furry hands digging holes to store their spoils in but forgetting where they put it, so digging loads of test holes until they don't find it because the crows had watched them bury it and had long since pilfered the pilfered goods.

Myyyyyyy that was a long sentence! :)

I started putting monkey nuts out for mine, but that kindness proved horribly lethal to a few of them :( who got splatted complete with nut, in the road outside. So even encouraging them has negative consequences, and I regret having done so now, because death tolls don't go down :(

edit: like Mikey mentioned resorting to elsewhere, one of my friends is particularly scary when charging across her garden at full roar - heart attack kind of scary, and another keeps a loaded heavy duty water gun which she fires at them which is also quite effective. I think if she could, she'd have a water cannon mounted on a tank like they use for riot control... I'm glad she can't :)

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

I am not in favor of starting

I am not in favor of starting "opinion" threads here at E@H. We all know what opinions are like and yes everyone has one. I for one do not wish to see E@H take a path where there is disrespect, etc. Lets keep Animal Right, Political discussions, Religious discussion and other such topics out of this Project/forum. I am for shutting down this thread now.

I wouldn't have a problem

I wouldn't have a problem with that robl. I was only trying to keep it out of the other "fun" thread. If a moderator wishes to delete this thread, no complaints here.

Thank you for providing the

Thank you for providing the opportunity, but I will decline to contribute here if you don't mind. The Admins here have always had a policy of staying away from contentious items such as politics and religion etc. And I would venture to suggest that an Animal rights thread would firmly fall into that category.

I would also agree that this thread should be halted. And if it is decided that Mikeys post should be hidden I would be quite happy for my response to it to be as well. Else, we should all draw a line under it and move on.

Waiting for Godot & salvation :-)

Why do doctors have to practice?
You'd think they'd have got it right by now
