create an app_config.xml. just put it in the project folder just like any other project.
_--------------
copy one from another project and just change the app names.
To get a list of app names put in an app name that is wrong and update the project. An error message will come back listing the applications.

app configs have been posted many times, easily searched, but here's an example for Einstein. Note, I haven't run Gravity wave in a while, I think GW name is einstein_O3AS1 now.

. . That is handy to know. But won't an incorrect app name stop BOINC from processing that project??

I copy that list putting it after the last xmlcode to give a reference list. I do change the name(s) to valid tasks.
If there are errors in that file it just runs with the defaults.

No, it just won't use your app_config parameters you've set for that sub-project. You will still process the tasks just with project default parameters.
You can gain the app_name by examining the client_state.xml file. That is the true arbiter for the app_name for the subproject.

this will run 3x tasks per GPU.
<gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage> would run 2 tasks per GPU
<gpu_usage>0.25</gpu_usage> would run 4 tasks per GPU
and so on.
