Hi, I got Wintel rendering farm for 3D graphics and decided to run E@H on it. All the "farmers" are identical computers - Intel P4 3GHz, Windows XP Professional Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.01.2600.00) with one exception: 2 of them I put on tables, added graphic cards and monitors/keyboard/mouse, so guys can work on them, too. Albert runs fine on all of them except these two - these restarts immediately at the moment when albert is going to execute (state running in Manager).
Weird facts now:
-both computers made some work units for albert 4.37 already
-both computers also got freshly reinstalled Windows, BOINC was the very 1st application getting installed, and albert ran fine on both. However, when I "finished" installation adding ATI Catalyst drivers and Service Pack 2 - albert started rebooting computers
-both computers run stable under heavy 3D work conditions - whether it is manipulating huge 3D models with 3ds max, or rendering with mental ray. So absolutely NO issues neither with cooling nor memory I guess.

Help me donating more power for Einstein@home ;o)
Thanks.

albert4.37 restarting WinXP SP2 with ATI Radeon

I tried to look at this some more, and the most suspicious killing combination seems to be ATI graphics drivers with all the Windows Auto Update pile of bytes. Simply because other of my machines, which runs albert 4.37 fine, have the same Windows version installed, with Auto Updates on. (Auto Update installed also SP2 at all of them) The only difference is that these OK computers have no graphics cards (onboard only), and my faulty computers got ATI graphics inserted.

please note that the computer restarts when albert 4.37 exe starts, nothing with the screensaver or such graphics tasks...

ATI cards have been a source of problems for Einstein in the past - but the new Albert app is supposed to have fixed those problems. Are you sure you have the most up to date driver? This link should help you check.

Thanks for your answer,
Actually, I'm almost sure the driver is not the latest one - when I was reinstalling those computers, I simply took the ATI installation CD and hit easy install. I will check the web for updates tommorow.

Rasto,

Just a shot in the dark, but have you done a coldstart since installing the drivers? Power the rig down completely, wait a couple of minutes, then start?
Also, I've seen some people mentioning problems after Windows Update sent out the radical WMF fix; it's got me to the point where I've blocked that update on the WinUpdate site. Other than those, I can't think of anything else to offer you, so I'll have to bow out. Sorry.

Michael
